AVOID FEES AND CHARGES ON YOUR WATER USAGE ACCOUNT Six-monthly Water Usage Accounts are now overdue. Reminder notices are about to be issued which will include a $6.40 late fee. If payment is not received within fourteen days of the reminder, further action will be taken. Please note that payments made other than at Council may take up to 3 days to be credited to your account. This will ensure that you avoid unnecessary fees and charges being added to your account. Please treat your Water Usage Account with the urgency it deserves to avoid unnecessary costs. Interest is charged at 10% per annum and begins accruing from the due date. Applications are invited for the use of Council’s Sporting Fields for the Winter Season, 1 April 2008 to 30 September 2008. This invitation includes utilisation of playing fields for one-off events or regular use. All user groups, including schools, wishing to utilise Councils fields during the winter season should request and complete the Application Forms and relevant documents, and provide the documentation requested in the information kit. Please contact Customer First on 02 65 663200 to obtain a kit. These applications are important because they form the basis of our record keeping on field usage. These records are also used to assist our budgeting process by providing evidence supporting capital expenditure on the fields. PAYMENT OF RATES – REMINDER Ratepayers are reminded that the third rate instalment is due for payment on or before 29 February 2008. Failure to finalise the payment by the due date will result in interest charges. Ratepayers who have been granted a “Pensioners Rebate” have until 31 May, 2008 to finalise their account in full, however arrears on a Pensioners account must be finalised immediately and is the subject of daily interest charges. Should you be experiencing difficulties in paying your rates, please contact Council to make a suitable arrangement for settlement of the account. KEMPSEY SHIRE COUNCIL – SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT SERVICES Applications are invited from qualified persons/organisations interested in undertaking operation of Council’s Pound and Parking Control. The successful Contractor will be involved in general Ranger duties as directed, with Parking/Pound duties being key duties. Further information on the Development Proposals can be obtained by contacting: HALF DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAYS 2008 The following public half day holidays have been gazetted by the NSW Department of Industrial Relations for the Kempsey Shire Council area:- • Wednesday afternoon, 9 April 2008 for Kempsey Show Local public holidays are gazetted under the Banks and Banks Holidays Act of 1912. This act requires that banks are closed on local public holidays. An appointed local holiday under the Act benefits employees who have an industrial award, agreement or contract of employment which confers a right of paid absence (or penalty rates in lieu) on the local public holiday. In the absence of such express coverage within an applicable industrial instrument, the conferring of the benefit of a local public holiday to employees is entirely within the discretion of individual employers. Master Locksmith Access Key system (MLAK) The MLAK is a master key that fits into specially designed locks allowing 24 hour a day access to public toilets. Eligibility is restricted to people who have a disability or have written authority from a Doctor, a Disability Organisation, a Local Council or Community Health Centre, the Owner or management of a building with an accessible toilet on site. Eligible people can purchase a key that opens all accessible toilets displaying the MLAK symbol for only $15 at Council’s Customer First Centre. COMMUNITY NEWSLETTERS Council produces six community newsletters each year. Two 4 page colour newsletters are distributed by letterbox delivery in March and August and four 2 page monotone newsletters are attached to the Rate instalment notices distributed at the end of January, April, July and October. If you pay your rates in one lump sum you will not receive rate instalment notices and will, therefore, miss out on receiving these quarterly newsletters. If you’d like to receive one you can contact Megan Barber on 65 663334 and arrange for one to be posted to you.
