ALCOHOL FREE ZONES WITHIN THE KEMPSEY CBD, SOUTH KEMPSEY AND WEST KEMPSEY Kempsey Shire Council supports a comprehensive approach in tackling alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour. One of the many strategies used to address these issues is the introduction of Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ). Commencing on Tuesday, 1st July 2008, 24 hour, 7 days per week Alcohol Free Zones will become effective within the Kempsey Central Business District, and selected streets within South Kempsey and West Kempsey residential areas for a period of three (3) years. Over the next few months, Macleay Water’s contractor, ADS Environmental Services, will be conducting acoustic testing of water mains. Macleay Water staff will then excavate and repair any leaks detected. While the work is aimed at the Council water supply system it will also identify some leaks which are in household and rural property pipes. Affected residents/owners will be advised that they have a probable leak in their pipes and should check their system for leaks. The project will receive financial assistance of 30% from the Water Loss Management Program (WLMP) for Regional NSW Water Utilities, an initiative of the Local Government and Shires Association and Water Directorate and is partially funded by the Australian Government through the Water Smart Australia Programme.
