Battle of the Bands
The Macleay Youth Council, in partnership with Terry’s Entertainment are proud to present the Kempsey Shire Council 08 ‘Battle of the Bands’ at 12.30pm on Saturday, 5 April, at Kempsey Skatepark in Belgrave Street, Kempsey. Please note all band members must be under 25 years of age.

SK8 Comp
There will be two age skate competitions from 12 noon on Saturday, 5 April, at Kempsey skatepark – Under 14’s and Under 25’s. Prizes include Cash and clothing prizes donated by Crescent Head Surf Co, and a skateboard donated by Kempsey Bike Shop. You can register to enter at the Skatepark from 11am on the day of the competition. The most outstanding skateboard competitor in the Under 14’s section will receive the Blake Butterfield Memorial Trophy.

Various youth services will also have stands at Kempsey Skatepark on the day, packed with valuable information for the youth of our Shire.

PUBLIC COMMENT SOUGHT
Proposed Park Name

Council is seeking public comment on the proposal to name an unnamed park off North Street, West Kempsey, opposite the Kempsey Racecourse.

The proposed name is SAMUEL HOSKINS PARK after a respected Aboriginal Elder in the Kempsey community.

Submissions to the proposal should be made, in writing, to Council by Monday 28 April 2008 addressed to the General Manager, Kempsey Shire Council, PO Box 3078, WEST KEMPSEY NSW 2440.

ROAD RESEALING WORKS
VARIOUS STREETS – SOUTH WEST ROCKS AREA

Kempsey Shire Council is conducting resealing works on the following streets in the South West Rocks area from 7:00 am, Monday, 7 April 2008, until 5:00 pm, Saturday, 12 April 2008 (approximately 6 days - weather permitting).

• Arakoon Road
• Bullocks Quarry Road
• Dorshae Close
• Entrance Street
• Gap Beach Road
• Gorgon Young Drive
• Gothic Street
• Mitchell Street
• Orara Street
• Phillip Drive
• Rainforest Lane
• Rosella Place
• Trial Street
• Wentworth Avenue

Traffic control will be in place during the works and Council would appreciate if residents and visitors could avoid parking on the road during this time. Access to properties may be disrupted for short periods of time during works.

ENGRAVERS FOR HIRE

Have you ever had your property stolen? Would you like to help prevent and or recover your stolen property?

Kempsey Shire Council, has taken a proactive approach to help assist residents prevent and recover stolen property. Council as part of its Community Safety Program has purchased portable engraving kits that are now are available for hire.

These kits will assist you to mark your property with your licence number which is easily recognisable by the Police and makes recovery much easier should you have your property stolen.

The kits are light and easy to use, the instructions are also included to guide residents in marking their property.

To make arrangements to take advantage of this service all you need to do is contact Council on 65663200 and book a kit.

The kits are available for hire from Friday afternoons until the following Monday morning and can be collected from the Customer First Centre in Tozer Street West Kempsey.

A hire fee of $50 is payable at the time of hire which includes a $40 deposit refunded on the safe return of the kit.

An additional fee of $10 per day is payable if the engraving kit is returned after 10am Monday morning.

After hours returns are available through the Kempsey Library book return shute located on Elbow Street entrance.

Take advantage of this is opportunity for you to safe guard your property.

NOTIFICATION OF CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED DEVELOPMENTS

HALF DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAYS 2008

The following public half day holidays have been gazetted by the NSW Department of Industrial Relations for the Kempsey Shire Council area:-

• Wednesday afternoon, 9 April 2008 for Kempsey Show
• Thursday afternoon, 8 May 2008 for Kempsey Cup.

Local public holidays are gazetted under the Banks and Banks Holidays Act of 1912. This act requires that banks are closed on local public holidays. An appointed local holiday under the Act benefits employees who have an industrial award, agreement or contract of employment which confers a right of paid absence (or penalty rates in lieu) on the local public holiday. In the absence of such express coverage within an applicable industrial instrument, the conferring of the benefit of a local public holiday to employees is entirely within the discretion of individual employers.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION OF DEVELOPMENT CONSENTS - ISSUED BY COUNCIL

Consent has been granted for the following applications.

A record of consents may be inspected, without charge, at the Customer First Centre of the Kempsey Shire Council, Civic Centre, Tozer Street, West Kempsey, between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm from Monday to Friday (public holidays excepted).

COMMUNITY GROUPS URGED TO APPLY NOW FOR CDSE FUNDS

The Community Development and Support Expenditure (CDSE) Scheme is now taking Category 1 grant applications for projects in the following priority areas:

• Transport,
• Men’s Services / refuge
• Health of children and being ready for school,
• Public safety,
• Crisis accommodation for women
• Domestic Violence.

Funds for the CDSE scheme are provided by medium to large registered clubs. Last year registered clubs in NSW supported community and sporting groups to the tune of more than $100 million.

Applications for Category 2 grants (including sporting, cultural and other activities) are administered directly by the clubs. The closing date for applications is 4.30pm, Friday, 25 April 2008.
