DEVELOPMENT OF LANDSBOROUGH STREET CAR PARK

Council is considering the development of the Landsborough Street Car Park, South West Rocks by constructing a mixed commercial/residential development incorporating a Library.

A public meeting will be held on 17 February 2009 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the CWA Hall, Landsborough Street, South West Rocks.

PUBLIC MEETING – CITTASLOW CONCEPT

Council has invited the Mayor, Kym McHugh and Chief Executive Officer, John Coombe, Alexandrina Council to Kempsey to outline at a public meeting the Cittaslow concept and the advantages that Cittaslow can give to a community.

The Cittaslow concept evolved in Italy and it means taking time out to think about what we should be doing and how we should be doing it. Towns that have become Cittaslows have become re-invigorated because they have used the consultation time to develop new ideas and projects for everyone in the community – including youth projects, employment and business opportunities as well as environmental and historical proposals.

Goolwa South Australia, a town in Alexandrina Council, was the first town in Australia to be awarded Cittaslow status.

The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers Civic Centre, Kempsey at 3.00 pm on Tuesday, 17 February, and members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend.

PUBLIC EXHIBITION OF DRAFT AGEING 2022,
ACTION ON AGEING STRATEGY AND ACTION PLAN
EXHIBITION PERIOD – 30 DECEMBER 2008 TO 13 FEBRUARY 2009

Responding to and planning for the major changes and service demands that will be created by Australia’s ageing population is a major challenge for all levels of government.

Between 2004 and 2022 the population of the Macleay Valley is projected to increase in size to around 29,875 (7%).

The impact on the demand on services, facilities and infrastructure will be significant and will impact on virtually all aspects of council’s operations.

To address this issue Kempsey Shire Council has produced the Ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Action Plan which outlines details of Council’s work and activities for the coming years.

You are encouraged to view this document at the:

So if you want know anything about what Council is planning this is the meeting to be at! The venue for the meeting will be the Council Chambers in Elbow Street, West Kempsey.

You are invited to comment on the Draft ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Action Plan. Submissions, addressed to the General Manager, Kempsey Shire Council, PO Box 3078, West Kempsey. If you or organisation would like to ‘have a go’ on CUAD simply think about an area which you feel would benefit from a clean up and go to the Clean Up Australia Website (www.cleanup.org.au) or follow the links from Council’s website (www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au) or phone on 1800 282 329 to register.

All you need to participate is a few enthusiastic people who care about our environment who will turn up on Sunday 1 March at your selected site with gloves, a hat, sturdy shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen to help Clean Up Australia.

Kempsey Shire Council is coordinating the local Clean Up Australia sites at across the Shire. Council’s contribution to the day is to arrange for the collection of the rubbish gathered on the day at the various registered sites. For this reason it is important to register as an Official CUAD site to ensure the rubbish is collected.
