DRAFT COMMUNITY DELIVERY PROGRAM 2010-2015 Kempsey Shire Council is required to develop a community delivery program (formerly called the social plan) every five years that maps out how the principles of social justice (equity, access, participation and rights) will be improved within our Shire. This Community Delivery Plan is now at Draft Stage and recognises the value of volunteering, community-based organisations, cultural diversity, community events, sporting organisations and community centres to our community. It also addresses the key social challenges, opportunities and aspirations of the Macleay Valley. It is important that members of the community take the time to have a look at this delivery plan because it will affect the direction Council takes over the next five years, especially in the area of community engagement. The DRAFT Kempsey Shire Council Community Delivery Program 2010-15, developed in accordance with the Local Government (General) Amendment (Community and Social Plans) Regulation 1998, is on public exhibition for 28 days from Friday 16 October until 4pm Friday 13 November, 2009. You are encouraged to review this document at Kempsey, South West Rocks, Stuarts Point and Hat Head libraries, Council’s Customer First Centre in Tozer Street, West Kempsey or alternatively you may download a copy from Council’s Website at http://www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au/publicexhibition.htm. MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2010 – APPLICATIONS CALLED Council is requesting students to apply for two medical scholarships which will be offered to students who completed their HSC in 2009 and are commencing studies in 2010 in the field of medical science including: Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Optometry, Pharmacy, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Audiology, Podiatry, Dietetics and Nursing. Scholarships are for current Year 12, 2009 students from Kempsey High School, Macleay Vocational College, Melville High School, St Paul’s College Kempsey and students residing in the Macleay valley. Please note that the closing date for applications is Monday, 18 January 2010. ROAD CONSTRUCTION WORK - ELBOW STREET, WEST KEMPSEY Council is currently constructing centre parking in Elbow Street between Sea Street and Tozer Street, West Kempsey. The work is currently proceeding on schedule with the construction of a pedestrian crossing and tree planting underway. Alternative parking is available in Edinburgh Lane, which runs parallel behind the Elbow Street shops. Some businesses have rear access to this parking and there is a walkway through from Edinburgh Lane to Elbow Street between the Macleay Community College and the former Meals on Wheels office. Council has erected signs and other safety barriers to assist with the pedestrian access. Council recognises, and apologises for, inconvenience these works will cause but is aiming to have them completed as quickly as possible to minimise the disruption for members of the public and the business community. At anytime during which the application may be inspected, any person: 1 who has received written notice of a proposed development from Council; or A person or associate of the person who makes a submission in relation to the application must make a disclosure of any reportable political donation or gift made in the previous 2 years (and up to the time the matter is determined). WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION -
11 NOVEMBER 2009 Kempsey Shire Council advises residents of South West Rocks that work that will be carried out which may disrupt the water supply between the hours of 9am and 3pm on Wednesday, 11 November 2009. This work, making a connection into the reticulation system, is part of the new major trunk water mains project currently under construction at South West Rocks. PRESENTATION OF FINANCIAL REPORTS AS PER SECTION 418(3) OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT In accordance with Section 418(3) of the Local Government Act, 1993, Kempsey Shire Council advises that the Ordinary Council Meeting to be held on 10/11/2009 will include the presentation of the audited Financial Reports and the Auditors Reports for the financial year ending 30/6/2009.
