AUSTRALIA DAY ACTIVITIES 2009

Australia Day Celebrations 26 January 2009What are you doing this Australia Day!
Australia Day represents a day in which all people of this great Nation can celebrate the diversity and beauty of living in Australia. The shire’s official Australia Day Ambassador is indigenous businessman and former Federal Government Australian Labor Party President, Warren Mundine. Please take the opportunity to join in the celebrations this Australia Day at the following locations:

Crescent Head Community Celebrations
The Crescent Head Lions Club will continue its traditional Aussie Day breakfast by cooking up a storm at the Crescent Head Rotunda from about 9.00am. There will also be various games and fun activities for the community to get involved in.

South West Rocks Community Celebrations
The South West Rocks Lions Club will offer a free sausage sizzle and a cup of coffee or tea to residents, visitors and tourists from 7 .30am until 11.00am at the Horseshoe Bay Shelter Shed opposite the Surf Club. Please note no cold drinks will be available until the Kiosk opens so bring your own if you need them.

Official Awards Ceremony
The Official Australia Day Awards Ceremony in Kempsey will kick off at about 2.00pm with the official flag-raising at the Kempsey Macleay RSL Club. There will be the presentation of the Shire’s Australia Day awards.

Yellow Hospflight
A Family Fun Day will be held at the Kempsey Showground from 10am til 7.00pm to raise funds towards the Kempsey Hospital Wish List and Child and Care Flight Helicopters.

Activities including raffles, auctions, spinning wheel, plenty of singing and music, games for all the family, live shows and displays, market gardens, kids alley and plenty of food and beverages. Special Guests Smokin Joe and Sizzlin Simon Robinson will also be in attendance. Costs to participate in this community event are Adults $10, Concession: $5 and Children $2. The major sponsor for this event is the Yellow Pages.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
FOCUS GROUP 2008/09 Comprehensive State of the Environment Report

Kempsey Shire Council’s Sustainable Development Service Department invites Shire residents to nominate as individuals and representatives of groups and business for potential membership in its 2008/09 Comprehensive State of the Environment (SoE) Report Focus Group. The purpose of the Focus Group will be to develop the format and discuss reporting requirements for the 2008/09 Comprehensive SoE Report. The Comprehensive Report is developed every four (4) years and aims to provide an update on Kempsey Shire’s progress towards sustainability and the trends in environmental indicators of the care for environmental sectors; the land, water, atmosphere, biodiversity, human settlements and aboriginal and non-aboriginal heritage.

The goals of the selection process will be to assemble a focus group that represents a broad cross-section of our community and to draw on the communities relevant interests.

Successful applications will be required to attend approximately four (4) workshops on a weekly basis beginning mid March-April 2009.

Once completed please return your application form to Council or email to Council at ksc@kempsey.nsw.gov.au.

The closing date for registration of interest is Wednesday, 18 February 2009.

APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR USE OF COUNCIL’S SPORTING FIELDS
WINTER SEASON BOOKINGS 1 APRIL 2009 TO 30 SEPTEMBER 2009

Applications are invited for the use of Council’s Sporting Fields for the winter season, 1 April 2009 to 30 September 2009. This invitation includes utilisation of playing fields for one-off events or regular use.

All user groups, including schools, wishing to utilise Councils fields during the winter season should request and complete the Application Forms and relevant documents, and provide the documentation requested in the information kit. Please contact Customer First on 02 65 663200 to obtain a kit.

These applications are important because they form the basis of our record keeping on field usage. These records are also used to assist our budgeting process by providing evidence supporting capital expenditure on the fields.

PUBLIC EXHIBITION OF DRAFT AGEING 2022, ACTION ON AGEING STRATEGY AND ACTION PLAN.  EXHIBITION PERIOD – 30TH DECEMBER 2008 TO 13TH FEBRUARY 2009

Responding to and planning for the major changes and service demands that will be created by Australia’s ageing population is a major challenge for all levels of government.

Between 2004 and 2022 the population of the Macleay Valley is projected to increase in size to around 29,875 (7%).

The impact on the demand on services, facilities and infrastructure will be significant and will impact on virtually all aspects of council’s operations.

To address this issue Kempsey Shire Council has produced the Ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Action Plan which outlines details of Council’s work and activities for the coming years.

You are encouraged to view this document at the:

We will also be holding a public meeting at 6.00pm on Tuesday, 3rd February 2009, to give everyone the opportunity to discuss the various aspects of the Draft Ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Plan. So if you want know anything about what Council is planning this is the meeting to be at! The venue for the meeting will be the Council Chambers in Elbow Street, West Kempsey.

You are invited to comment on the Draft ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Action Plan. Submissions, addressed to the General Manager, Kempsey Shire Council, PO Box 3078, West Kempsey. NSW. 2440, will be accepted up until Friday 13th February 2008. All submissions will be reviewed by Council and taken into consideration before the adoption of the final Ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Action Plan.

The applications and plans relating to the developments to which this notice refers may be inspected at Council’s Customer First Centre, Tozer Street, West Kempsey, any time between 8.30am and 4.30pm from Monday to Friday (public holidays excepted) for the period stated above.
At anytime during which the application may be inspected, any person:

1 who has received written notice of a proposed development from Council; or
2 who owns land and who contends that his enjoyment of that land will be detrimentally affected if a proposed development is carried out; or
3 who feels that a proposed development will adversely affect the character or amenity of the surrounding area may object in writing to council.

A person or associate of the person who makes a submission in relation to the application must make a disclosure of any reportable political donation or gift made in the previous 2 years (and up to the time the matter is determined).

The disclosure (Disclosure Statement of Political Donations and Gifts) will need to accompany the submission. A Disclosure Form and further details can be obtained from Council’s website or Customer First Centre.

If the application will need to be considered by Council, a precis of submissions received will be included in a report to Council for determination of the application. Copies of submissions may be included in the Appendices to the Business Paper unless specifically requested by the writer not to be included and the submission is clearly headed “confidential”.

HALF DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAYS 2008

The following public half day holidays have been gazetted by the NSW Department of Industrial Relations for the Kempsey Shire Council area:-

• Wednesday afternoon, 29 April 2009 for Kempsey Show
• Thursday afternoon, 7 May 2009 for Kempsey Cup.

Local public holidays are gazetted under the Banks and Banks Holidays Act of 1912. This act requires that banks are closed on local public holidays. An appointed local holiday under the Act benefits employees who have an industrial award, agreement or contract of employment which confers a right of paid absence (or penalty rates in lieu) on the local public holiday. In the absence of such express coverage within an applicable industrial instrument, the conferring of the benefit of a local public holiday to employees is entirely within the discretion of individual employers.
