FEBRUARY COUNCIL MEETING AT STUARTS POINT

Council would like to remind residents that the next Council meeting on Tuesday, 3rd February 2009, is being held at Stuarts Point. The newly elected Council wanted to hold some of its Council meetings outside Kempsey and this will be the first time a full Council meeting has been held outside Kempsey for many years. The residents of the Stuarts Point area are particularly invited to come along and see the Council at work in discussing the issues affecting our Shire. The meeting will commence at 9.00am at the Stuarts Point Community Hall and will go for most of the day. Everyone is welcome to attend even if it is for only part of the meeting.

HALF DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAYS 2009

The following public half day holidays have been gazetted by the NSW Department of Industrial Relations for the Kempsey Shire Council area:-

• Wednesday afternoon, 29 April 2009 for Kempsey Show
• Thursday afternoon, 7 May 2009 for Kempsey Cup.

Local public holidays are gazetted under the Banks and Banks Holidays Act of 1912. This act requires that banks are closed on local public holidays. An appointed local holiday under the Act benefits employees who have an industrial award, agreement or contract of employment which confers a right of paid absence (or penalty rates in lieu) on the local public holiday. In the absence of such express coverage within an applicable industrial instrument, the conferring of the benefit of a local public holiday to employees is entirely within the discretion of individual employers.

STEELE PARK, WEST KEMPSEY - COMMUNITY MEETING

Council invites members of the community to attend a meeting regarding Steele Park in West Kempsey on Monday 2 February 2009. The meeting will be held at the West Kempsey Community House, 26 Gordon Nixon Avenue from 10.00am with morning tea provided. Come and have your say on the future of the park.

COMMUNITY NEWSLETTERS

Council produces six community newsletters each year. Two 4 page colour newsletters are distributed by letterbox delivery in March and August and four 2 page monotone newsletters are attached to the Rate instalment notices distributed at the end of January, April, July and October.

If you pay your rates in one lump sum you will not receive rate instalment notices and will, therefore, miss out on receiving these quarterly newsletters. If you would like to receive one you can contact Megan Barber on 65 663334 and arrange for one to be posted to you. Alternatively, you can pick up a copy at the Customer First Centre or any of the Shire Library Branches in Kempsey, South West Rocks, Hat Head and Stuarts Point. Council’s newsletters are also available electronically via our Website www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au. (go to ‘Communications’ then ‘Council Newsletters’).

PUBLIC EXHIBITION OF DRAFT AGEING 2022,
ACTION ON AGEING STRATEGY AND ACTION PLAN
EXHIBITION PERIOD – 30TH DECEMBER 2008 TO 13TH FEBRUARY 2009

Responding to and planning for the major changes and service demands that will be created by Australia’s ageing population is a major challenge for all levels of government.

Between 2004 and 2022 the population of the Macleay Valley is projected to increase in size to around 29,875 (7%).

The impact on the demand on services, facilities and infrastructure will be significant and will impact on virtually all aspects of council’s operations.

To address this issue Kempsey Shire Council has produced the Ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Action Plan which outlines details of Council’s work and activities for the coming years.

You are encouraged to view this document at the:

• Civic Centre in West Kempsey,
• Libraries at Kempsey, South West Rocks and Stuarts Point
• Crescent Head Country Club
• Hat Head Bowling and Recreation Club
• Bellbrook General Store and
• Willawarrin Post Office and General Store
• Frederickton Newsagency
• Smithtown General Store
• Gladstone General Store

The document is also available on Council’s website www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au.

We will also be holding a public meeting at 6.00pm on Tuesday, 3rd February 2009, to give everyone the opportunity to discuss the various aspects of the Draft Ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Plan. So if you want know anything about what Council is planning this is the meeting to be at! The venue for the meeting will be the Council Chambers in Elbow Street, West Kempsey.

You are invited to comment on the Draft ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Action Plan. Submissions, addressed to the General Manager, Kempsey Shire Council, PO Box 3078, West Kempsey. NSW. 2440, will be accepted up until Friday 13th February 2009. All submissions will be reviewed by Council and taken into consideration before the adoption of the final Ageing 2022, Action on Ageing Strategy and Action Plan.

NSW Seniors Week will be held from 15-22 March 2009. Kempsey Shire Council’s Seniors Luncheon will be held at the Kempsey Macleay RSL Auditorium on Wednesday, 18 March 2009, commencing at 11.00 am.
