Garbage services

All waste transfer stations and the Crescent Head landfill site will be closed on Christmas Day, 25 December 2011 and New Years Day, 1 January 2012.  Waste transfer stations and landfill sites will operate as per normal schedules from 2 January 2012.

Waste, Recycling and Green waste collection over the Christmas New Year period will remain as per the regular schedule.

Traffic arrangements for the Christmas and New Year holiday period

To assist traffic flow on the Pacific Highway over the Christmas New Year Period for traffic travelling through Kempsey the NSW RTA, in consultation with Council and the NSW Police Force, advise that no right turn will be allowed from Smith Street into Belgrave Street, Kempsey from 7am on Thursday 22 December 2011 to Tuesday 3 January 2012.

It is possible that if traffic volumes demand, these traffic arrangements may be implemented on additional days.

To avoid delays, it is recommended that eastbound traffic should access the highway via the traffic lights at Forth or Stuart Street rather than at the traffic lights in Belgrave Street. The co-operation of all motorists and businesses is appreciated.

Hat Head Caravan Park and day visitor area – 6pm closure Boxing Day

Council is closing entry to the Hat Head Caravan Park and day visitor area from 6pm 26 December (Boxing Day) to 7am 27 December 2011. This action is a result of discussions with the Police Local Area Command and local businesses.

Council apologises for any inconvenience during this time.

Medical Scholarships 2012 – applications called

Council invites students who will complete their HSC this year, 2011, to apply for two Medical Scholarships.

To be eligible for the Scholarships students must:

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 3 January 2012 at 4pm.

Application forms for these Scholarships are available on Council’s website, www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au or at Council’s Customer Service Centre located at 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey, on the corner of Elbow and Tozer Streets, West Kempsey.
