Kempsey CBD flood study business information session

The Draft Kempsey CBD Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan are now on public exhibition. The documents take into consideration a range of possible scenarios and recommend potential flood management actions.

Council is running an information session to provide business operators a chance to review the Kempsey CBD Draft Flood Study and Plan in detail and to ask questions to assist with making a submission.

The session will be held on Wednesday 15 February from 5:30-7:30pm at the Council offices in Tozer Street Kempsey.

Kempsey Library events

Bestselling author to visit Kempsey Library

Acclaimed local author Fiona McArthur will visit Kempsey Library this month to speak about her new novel, Heart of the Sky.

The talk will be held on Thursday 23 February at 5pm, with copies of Heart of the Sky being available to purchase on the day. Light refreshments will also be provided.

Friends of the Library - Kempsey logo

The Friends of the Library Kempsey group (FOLK) will recommence it’s monthly book sale in the forecourt of Kempsey Library on Friday 24 February 9:30am-2:00pm.

Come along for a bargain! Books will be on sale for $3 a box and DVDs for 20¢, with all funds raised going toward supporting reading and literacy in the Kempsey Shire.


Storytime is back! These sessions are designed for children aged 3 to 6 years and are free to attend. Join Ruth and Mary at the library on Friday 24 February at 10:30am to read Give Please A Chance by Bill O’Reilly and James Patterson.

This week our crews will be working on:

Old Killick Creek footbridge
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Demolish old Killick Creek footbridge at Crescent Head
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Flood structure maintenance of Ball’s floodgates and Clancy’s Drain floodgates
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath/drainage maintenance: All areas - maintenance response as required
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching - Greenhill area, Kundabung area, Aldavilla/Yarravel area and East Kempsey streets
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Excavate and replace pavement on Cochrane, Short and River streets, West Kempsey
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Mackenzies Creek Road, Fifes Creek Road, West End Lane, Sandy Creek Road and Kemps Road
  • Roadside slashing: Plummers Lane, Macleay Valley Way (south of Kempsey), Armidale Road (Willawarrin to Kempsey), Mungay Creek Road, Temagog Road and Turners Flat Road
  • Other works: Restore driveways, topsoil and lay turf on Macleay Valley Way (Creek Street to Chapman Street), Frederickton as part of Stage 2 streetscape upgrade; construct widened shoulder on Eden Street, Kempsey as part of Pedestrian Access and Mobility Project; excavate Waste Management Centre for new waste cell construction

Any person may make a written submission to the consent authority in relation to a development application during the exhibition period. If a submission is made by way of objection, the grounds of objection must be specified in the submission. Please note that any submission received by Council may be made publicly available.

A person who makes a written submission to a development application is required to disclose all reportable political donations and gifts (if any) made by the person making the submission or any associate of that person within the period commencing two years before the submission is made and ending when the application is determined.
