NSW Regional Ports Strategy

Due to the interest shown in providing feedback about the regional ports managed by NSW Department of Industry - Lands, the Department is seeking your feedback for the development of the NSW Regional Ports Strategy which will guide the future of infrastructure and assets owned by the department in these ports.

If you access or use the port in Port Macquarie, Laurieton or South West Rocks visit  before 28 April to have your say!

Holiday Library activities

Taronga Zoomobile Animals of the Dreaming TOUR
Wednesday 19 April, 10am

Open to children of all ages, this informative session will be delivered by highly respected Aboriginal elder Col Hardy as well as Taronga Zoo’s education officer Ryan Dare. During the session children will be treated to stories and songs as told by Col and have the opportunity to meet, learn about, and pat the Zoomobile’s native animals.

Hat Head 4WD beach access closed

Council regrets to advise that 4WD access to the beach at Hat Head is not available at present due to significant erosion of the ramp. Recent storms and high tides have caused this erosion and Council will be making a full assessment on repair options and future access once the sand volume has stabilised.

Queen’s Baton Relay nominations

Give someone an opportunity to Share the Dream!

The eyes of the Commonwealth will be on the Macleay from Friday 2 February, 2018 as the Queen’s Baton journeys through toward its final destination on the Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April.

Local legends are being called on to carry the Queen’s Baton across the valley via a community nomination program whereby residents nominate someone to become a Batonbearer.

If you know someone residing in the Macleay who has achieved something extraordinary, made a significant contribution, or excelled in a certain field, make a nomination before 15 May, 2017.

Proposal to name Verge Street Oval gates

Council has received a proposal from the Macleay Valley Mustangs Rugby League Club to name the gates of the Verge Street Oval the Lloyd Hudson Memorial Gates.

Mr Hudson was born in Kempsey in 1923 and began playing rugby league as a schoolboy, going on to represent NSW in both Rugby League and boxing. He was made a life member of the Macleay Valley Mustangs and awarded the Kempsey Shire Council Citizen Achievement Award in 2004. Mr Hudson died in 2015 aged 92.

Council is seeking community feedback on the gate naming proposal. Submissions will be welcomed for 28 days, closing at 4:30pm on Monday 15 May, 2017.

This week our crews will be working on:

Works on Lord Street footpath continue, with new railings being installed last week
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Repair fire damage to Rainbows End Road bridge
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Various pothole patching of pavements as required
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Continued rehabilitation of kerb, gutter and pavement on Cochrane, Short and River Streets in West Kempsey will recommence on 1 May, 2017
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Maria River Road, Dowlings Falls Road, Brassils Creek Road, Point Plomer Road
  • Roadside slashing: Macleay Valley Way (Kempsey to Frederickton), Kinchela area, Hat Head Road, Marys Bay Road, Euroka Road
  • Other works: Continued excavation of Waste Management Centre for construction of new waste cell; pour new Lord Street footpath (Macleay Valley Way to Herborne Avenue); replace footpath from Chapman Street to shops as part of Frederickton streetscape; drainage improvements on Hughes Place, Frederickton
