Library and Information Week

During 22-28 May the community is encouraged to discover the many services and resources available at Kempsey Shire Library as part of Library and Information Week. The week aims to raise the profile of libraries and information service professionals in Australia and showcases the many resources and services that libraries provide to the community.

Kempsey Shire Library will be supporting the Cancer Council by holding an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea

Friday 25 May, 9:30am-2pm
Friends of the Library will be holding a library booksale offering a great range of pre-loved books and magazines at bargain prices

ClubGRANTS funding applications close soon!

The Kempsey Macleay ClubGRANTS Committee is taking grant applications for projects within the Kempsey Shire until midnight on Sunday 28 May.

Category 1 funding is available for specific local community priorities which support community welfare and social services; community development; employment assistance activities; community health services; and projects aimed at improving the living standards of low income and disadvantaged people.

Category 2 funding is for general community development and support activities, such as junior sport and is directly administered by the Clubs.

Weekly works schedule

This week our crews will be working on:

Heavy patching on Hat Head road
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Installation of posts and bearers for rebuild of Oil Terminal Footbridge, South West Rocks
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Gate replacement at Robinsons Drain, Summer Island; weed spraying on Summer Island Road, Kinchela; weed clearing at Willow Drain
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Footpath repair in Bunya Pine Court, West Kempsey and Gordon Young Drive, South West Rocks
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching in South West Rocks and Aldavilla areas
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Modification of drainage pit in Cochrane Street, West Kempsey; removal of damaged kerb and installation of subsoil drainage line on Short Street, West Kempsey; installation of new pit lintels/grates and preparation for new kerb on River Street, West Kempsey; excavation and replacement of failed pavement on North Street, West Kempsey; excavation and replacement of failed pavement on East Street, Crescent Head
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Grading on Warbro Brook Road, Toorooka and Winstead Road, Kundabung
  • Roadside slashing: Slashing on South West Rocks Road (Gladstone to Kempsey), Spooners Avenue, Sherwood Road, Link Road, Crescent Head area and South Kempsey
  • Other works: Drainage works and tidying up from Chapman Street to shops as part of Frederickton streetscape; restoration of ground at Mattys Flat Boat Ramp; site clearing, mulching and excavation on Central Kempsey Sewer Treatment Plant access road; Pouring of footpath on Steve Eagleton Drive, South West Rocks as part of PAMP works

Development consents are available for public inspection, free of charge, during ordinary office hours at the consent authority’s principal office, at Council’s Customer Service Centre, Civic Centre, 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey, between 8:30am and 4:30pm from Monday to Friday (public holidays excepted).

A development application and accompanying documents may be inspected at Kempsey Shire Council, 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey, any time between 8:30am and 4:30pm from Monday to Friday (except public holidays) during the exhibition period.

Any person may make a written submission to the consent authority in relation to a development application during the exhibition period. If a submission is made by way of objection, the grounds of objection must be specified in the submission. Please note that any submission received by Council may be made publicly available.
