Australian Poetry Slam - Kempsey heat

Speak, scream, howl, whisper or sing your poems, stories and lyrics in
Australian Poetry Slam 2017!

Local poets, storytellers, hip hop artists and stand-up comedians are being given an opportunity to showcase 2 minutes of their best material at the Kempsey round of Australian Poetry Slam at Kempsey Library on Friday 11 August.

Over 1000 writer/performers are expected to compete for the APS crown this year. Finals will take place in Sydney in October and the winner will take part in the ultimate writers’ festival tour across several countries in 2018 - a prize valued at over $10,000. Could it be you?

Hosted by 2014 APS champion Zohab Khan, the evening will also feature APS champion Arielle Cottingham, local musician Liam Moylan, and a tutorial on how to record and upload your poems and stories to online platforms.

Children aged 7+ years are invited to attend this free magic workshop hosted by Dane the Great Magician at 10:30am Thursday 13 July at Kempsey Library.

Dane has an unusual style of magic which blends card manipulation and theatrical stage props utilising original music and sound.

Weekly works schedule

Due to impact of wet weather, previously advised works were delayed. This week our crews will be working on:

South West Rocks Oil Terminal Footbridge is now complete
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Removal of existing structure, repair of concrete cancer, excavation of abutments and installation of hold down bolts at Whalens Bridge on Austral Eden Inner Road
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Complete Cox. Coral weed spraying in various locations; repair Robinson’s Drain gates
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Pour kerb and gutter and seal pavement on Bestic Street, Collin Tait Avenue and Clarence Ryan Avenue in West Kempsey
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on Temagog Road, Armidale Road and Belmore River Right Bank Road; heavy patching on Stuarts Point Road
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Restore driveways and make minor kerb and pit repairs on River Street, West Kempsey; minor kerb repairs on North Street, West Kempsey; linemarking on East Street, Crescent Head; excavate and replace pavement on Entrance Street, South West Rocks
  • Gravel road resheeting: Willi Willi Road (Temagog Road to Toorumbee Road)
  • Gravel road maintenance grading:Willi Willi Road and Point Plomer Road
  • Roadside slashing: South West Rocks Road (Gladstone to Kempsey), Plummers Lane and South Kempsey area
  • Other works: Drainage works and linemarking from Chapman Street to shops as part of Frederickton streetscape; excavate culvert and install ballast base as part of Central Kempsey Sewage Treatment Plant access road and site earthworks; tidy up Gregory Street kerb ramps at Frank Cooper and Simpson Street intersections as part of South West Rocks PAMP works; pour footing and construct retaining wall at Gregory Street/Gordon Young Drive pedestrian refuge as part of South West Rocks PAMP works; install signs and commence linemarking at Eden Street refuge as part of Kempsey PAMP works; prepare Elbow Street, West Kempsey for kerb and gutter following water main replacement

Development consents are available for public inspection, free of charge, during ordinary office hours at the consent authority’s principal office, at Council’s Customer Service Centre, Civic Centre, 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey, between 8:30am and 4:30pm from Monday to Friday (public holidays excepted).
