Kempsey Shire Council at Kempsey Show 2017

Visit Council’s stand in the Exhibition Hall at this year’s Kempsey Show, taking place at Kempsey Showground on 16-17 September. We will have customer service staff available, experts from our waste department to answer any questions you may have about the new waste service, and plenty of activities for the kids.

Expressions of Interest: Kempsey Library Book Club

Do you love reading?

Due to an increasing demand, Kempsey Library is looking to establish a second book club in Kempsey.

There are currently two book clubs in the shire – one at the Kempsey Library held on the last Monday of the month from 2pm to 3:30pm, and the South West Rocks Book Club held on the third Thursday of each month at 10am.

Residents are being encouraged to express their interest in the creation of an additional community book club with meetings to take place on the first Monday of every month from 11am at Kempsey Shire Library.

The book clubs are all about bringing those who love reading together to be social, talk about what’s new in the book world and discuss what they liked and disliked about a particular book.

Anyone can join regardless of their reading level – all you need is a current library membership.

Kempsey Library presents Noeline Kyle

Historian and author Noeline Kyle will visit Kempsey Shire Library on Friday 15 September at 11am to present a talk about her research and writing on women in history.

Drawing on her extensive research and writing from over 30 years of academic and popular publishing, there will be a particular focus on her latest book, Women’s Business: Midwives on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Footpath replacement on Smith Street to take place this week
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Form and pour base slab on Nulla Nulla Creek Road for Bunghole Bridge replacement
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Clearing of Fogmore drain; maintenance of Ball’s gates, Booth’s gates, Gladstone drain and Glenrock drain
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Pour kerb and gutter and restore pavement on McIntyre Street, South West Rocks (subject to availability of contractor); remove and replace footpath on Smith Street, Kempsey (at Reece Plumbing)
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on Gladstone, Smithtown and Crescent Head streets
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Continue widening and rehabilitation of Stuarts Point Road (Lukes Lane to Mighell Road); asphalt surfacing Elizabeth Street, South West Rocks (Gregory Street to Jubilee Street); pour kerb and gutter on South Street, South Kempsey; bitumen seal Armidale Road at Nook Creek slip and Temagog as part of realignment
  • Gravel road resheeting: Beranghi Road
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Beranghi Road, Carrai Road and Pipers Creek Road
  • Roadside slashing: Macleay Valley Way (Frederickton to Stuarts Point Road), South West Rocks Road (Gladstone to Kinchela), Hat Head Road
  • Other works: Central Kempsey Sewage Treatment Plant access road and site earthworks; install drainage layer of new waste cell at Waste Management Centre; continue forming and pouring footpaths as part of Elbow Street upgrade, West Kempsey; bitumen seal Tozer Street (Elbow Street to Marsh Street); demolish existing roundabout on Tozer Street/Elbow Street and excavate for concrete apron

A development application and accompanying documents may be inspected at Kempsey Shire Council, 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey, any time between 8:30am and 4:30pm from Monday to Friday (except public holidays) during the exhibition period.

Any person may make a written submission to the consent authority in relation to a development application during the exhibition period. If a submission is made by way of objection, the grounds of objection must be specified in the submission. Please note that any submission received by Council may be made publicly available.

A person who makes a written submission to a development application is required to disclose all reportable political donations and gifts (if any) made by the person making the submission or any associate of that person within the period commencing two years before the submission is made and ending when the application is determined. A disclosure statement form and further details can be obtained from Council’s website
