Red Cedar Music and Art Festival

The Red Cedar Music and Art Festival, supported by Kempsey Shire Council, will be held at the Kempsey Showground on Saturday 11 November 2017.

The festival will feature 17 musicians and bands from the Macleay Valley and Mid North Coast as well as a variety of food stalls.

Acts on the line-up include: Audiotek, EZ3, manicSOUL, DJ Healey, James Leigh, Chicken Joe and the Mavericks, Dan Hopkins, Pam Hata, Two Shots Shy, Molly Irwin, Connecting Souls, Jack Titterington, Barrel Dawg, Nathan Douglas, Brendan Jenssen and Liam Moylan.

Artists will perform in the main hall of the Kempsey Showground from 1pm until late.

Council & MIDWASTE Recycling Week initiative

Now in its 21st year, Recycling Week is coordinated by Planet Ark to bring a national focus to the environmental benefits of recycling.

To coincide with National Recycling Week during 13-19 November, Kempsey Shire Council, in partnership with MIDWASTE, is encouraging locals to drop off goods or pick up a bargain at their local tip shop for the chance to win a $50 voucher!

To be in with a chance to win a $50 tip shop voucher simply make a purchase or drop off unwanted items at Council’s Waste Management Centre located at 638 Crescent Head Road, South Kempsey anytime during Recycling Week.

Australia Day Award nominations are now open

Do you know a group or a community member making a positive difference in the Macleay Valley? Nominate them for a 2018 Australia Day Award.

The awards will be presented at the annual Australia Day Awards Ceremony at the Slim Dusty Centre on Australia Day eve.

Weekly works schedule

This week our crews will be working on:

Construction of a pedestrian refuge on Gregory Street continues this week
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Form and pour headboards and apron slabs as part of Bunghole Bridge replacement on Nulla Nulla Creek Road
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Backfill kerb and gutter on Cameron Street, Douglas Fentiman Street, Greenfields Avenue, Keith Dunn Street and Warwick Avenue
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching of Kempsey streets, Frederickton streets and Stuarts Point Road
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Pour concrete V-drain and excavate failed pavement areas on Stuarts Point Road (Lukes Lane to Mighell Road) as part of widening and rehabilitation; continue excavation of South Street for pavement replacement and commence pouring driveways, kerb and gutter as part of street rehabilitation
  • Gravel Resheeting: Place, spread and compact gravel on Jacks Crossing Road and Rainbow Reach Road
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Kinchela Creek Left Bank Road and Kinchela Creek Right Bank Road
  • Roadside Slashing: South West Rocks Road (Kinchela to Jerseyville) and Macleay Valley Way (Frederickton to Clybucca)
  • Other works: Central Kempsey Sewer Treatment Plant access road and site earthworks; install islands on Elbow Street; woodchip cleared vegetation and continue earthworks as part of South Street extension from West Street to Gowings Hill Road; commence drainage works and excavate Lachlan Street (Carri Street to Nicholson Street) for kerb; form and pour footpath on west side and install kerb ramp on east side Gregory Street pedestrian refuge (at Gordon Young Drive)

Any person may make a written submission to the consent authority in relation to a development application during the exhibition period.
