Kempsey Healing Forum

Healing hands

Organised by Kempsey Healing Together Planning Committee and supported by Council, the Kempsey Healing Forum is a three-day community event focussed on healing intergenerational trauma, building partnerships to support healing and identifying opportunities to improve the way local organisations work with the Aboriginal community to facilitate healing.

The event will be held at Kempsey Showground from 15 - 17 November, 9am - 3pm daily, and cover topics such as grief, Stolen Generations, violence, substance abuse and community politics. All are welcome to attend.

CSPC meeting

The Community Safety Precinct Committee (CSPC) is the forum through which NSW Police Force and Government agencies consult the community and other key stakeholders on crime prevention and community safety issues at a local level.

A CSPC meeting will be held from 10am on Tuesday 28 November at Kempsey Shire Council Chambers located at 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey. Local Area Commanders will present local crime information and raise awareness of crime prevention approaches. The community are invited to attend.

Australia Day Award nominations are now open

Do you know a group or a community member making a positive difference in the Macleay Valley? Nominate them for a 2018 Australia Day Award.

Nominations close 4:30pm on Friday 24 November, 2017.

The awards will be presented at the annual Australia Day Awards Ceremony at the Slim Dusty Centre on Australia Day eve.

2017 Kempsey Akubra Cup

The 2017 Kempsey Akubra Cup has been officially published as a local event day by NSW Industrial Relations* and will be held this Friday 10 November at Kempsey Race Club.

A major social event in the Macleay Valley, the Kempsey Akubra Cup always brings a great crowd, with hotly contested fashions on the field and locally sponsored races.

Active Seniors workshop

Are you 60+? Learn practical tips and positive strategies to improve strength, flexibility, mobility, balance and mental activity at a free Active Seniors health workshop at Kempsey Shire Library on Wednesday 15 November from 1:30pm-2:30pm.

Rachel Scoltock with her book, My Life with Angels

Rachel Scoltock author talk

Local author Rachel Scoltock will speak about her latest book My Life with Angels: How to Access the Healing and the Wisdom of the Angels at Kempsey Library on Friday 17 November at 10:30am.

An angel medium and intuitive energy therapist from Arakoon, Rachel will share her experiences at this free author talk.

Weekly works schedule

This week our crews will be working on:

South Street extension earthworks are well underway
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Form and pour apron slabs and remove sidetrack as part of Bunghole Bridge replacement on Nulla Nulla Creek Road
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Backfill kerb and gutter on Warwick Avenue; remove and replace failed footpath areas on Sea Street
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Kempsey streets, Fishermans Reach Road, Grassy Head Road, Marine Parade carpark area and Gowings Hill Road
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Backfill concrete V-drain, install guardrail, stabilise pavement and prepare Stuarts Point Road (Lukes Lane to Mighell Road) for seal as part of widening and rehabilitation; continue excavation for pavement replacement, pouring driveways and pouring kerb/gutter as part of South Street extension and rehabilitation
  • Gravel Resheeting: Place, spread and compact gravel on Jacks Crossing Road and Rainbow Reach Road
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Kinchela Creek Left Bank Road and Maria River Road
  • Roadside Slashing: Macleay Valley Way (Frederickton to Clybucca), Crescent Head area and Kinchela area
  • Other works: Central Kempsey Sewage Treatment Plant access road and site earthworks; install islands on Elbow Street; continue earthworks on South Street as part of extension from West Street to Gowings Hill Road; continue drainage works and excavate west side of Lachlan Street (Carri Street to Nicholson Street) for kerb; form and pour footpath on west side and install kerb ramp on east side Gregory Street pedestrian refuge (at Gordon Young Drive); reshape shoulder and improve drainage on southern side of Willawarrin village area
