Interim Transitional Arrangements - Kempsey Town Centre Public Domain Section 94 Developer Contributions Plan (2010)

At its meeting of 17 October 2017, Council resolved to adopt Procedure 1.1.19 Interim Transitional Arrangements - Kempsey Town Centre Public Domain Section 94 Developer Contributions Plan (2010).

The purpose of this Procedure is to provide interim concessions to developer contributions for certain types of commercial development in the Kempsey Town Centre, pending a review of Council’s Section 94 developer contributions system.

The nominated date of commencement of the Procedure is 14 November 2017

Weed spraying

Council will be carrying out weed control for Lantana, Bitou Bush, Camphor Laurel, Privet, Groundsel Bush, Cockspur Coral Trees and other weedy species on rural roads including Stuarts Point Road, Grassy Head Road, South West Rocks Road, Summer Island Road, South West Rocks Streets.

Asbestos Awareness Month

The Asbestos Awareness campaign, being supported by Councils throughout NSW, aims to educate the community and particularly those undertaking home renovations about the ever-present dangers of asbestos and how to manage it safely.

Local Councils, including Kempsey Shire Council, have a number of complex responsibilities when it comes to minimising asbestos risk including land management (planning, demolition and contamination), building and asset management, emergency response, naturally occurring asbestos, waste management and regulation.

Recycling week initiative

To coincide with National Recycling Week this week Kempsey Shire Council, in partnership with MIDWASTE, is encouraging residents to drop off goods or pick up a bargain at their local tip shop for the chance to win a $50 voucher!

Producers/volunteers for Macleay Valley Food Bowl tent

The Macleay Valley Food Bowl tent has been a regular fixture at Kempsey Riverside Markets for the past six months. Kempsey Shire Council is looking to provide the tent during 2018 to support local producers and help meet consumer demand and are seeking Expressions of Interest from local producers and volunteers to man the stall and sell their produce.

Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottages lease opportunity

The Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified operator/s to manage as holiday accommodation, two historic heritage lighthouse property precincts consisting of multiple cottages, ancillary buildings and surrounding lands at Sugarloaf Point and Smoky Cape. A five year lease with a five year option is being offered.

Lower Macleay Flood Study (TQE 17/27)

Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified consultants to undertake and prepare the Lower Macleay Flood Study, in accordance with The Floodplain Development Manual (NSW Government 2005).

Weekly works schedule

This week our crews will be working on:

Replacement of Bunghole Bridge is nearing completion
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Clean up and disestablish Bunghole Bridge worksite on Nulla Nulla Creek Road
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on Kempsey streets, Fishermans Reach Road, Gowings Hill Road, Plummers Lane and Goulds Lane
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Install guardrail and prepare Stuarts Point Road (Lukes Lane to Mighell Road) for seal as part of widening and rehabilitation works; stabilise South Street for pavement and prepare for seal as part of rehabilitation works
  • Gravel Resheeting: Place, spread and compact gravel on Jacks Crossing Road and Rainbow Reach Road
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Maria River Road
  • Roadside Slashing: Collombatti Road, Kinchela area, Belmore River area, South Kempsey area
  • Other works: Central Kempsey Sewage Treatment Plant access road and site earthworks; install islands on Elbow Street; continue earthworks and provide rock bridging layer at culvert on South Street as part of extension from West Street to Gowings Hill Road; excavate west side of Lachlan Street (Carri Street to Nicholson Street) for kerb, pour kerb and construct footpath as part of Stage 1 works; form and pour footpath on west side and install kerb ramp on east side Gregory Street pedestrian refuge (at Gordon Young Drive); reshape shoulder and improve drainage on southern side of Willawarrin village area; replace stairs to Macleay Valley Way on Little Rudder Street
