Anzac Memorial Centenary Project

Residents are being encouraged to register to collect soil in key locations in the Macleay Valley as part of an Anzac Centenary project.

The project’s Soil Collection Program is asking schools, groups and individuals to collect soil from the NSW towns, suburbs and localities that World War I enlistees gave as their place of address. The collected samples will become part of a new display at the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, Sydney in 2018.

If you are interested in being part of the project, you can register at

Have your say on funding environmental projects

Over the last 15 years, the Environmental Levy applied to Council rates has funded significant environmental restoration projects that have managed, protected and preserved the waterways and natural environment of the Kempsey Shire.

The current Environmental Levy will run out at the end of the 2017-2018 financial year and Council is seeking community feedback on whether to extend the Environmental Levy and the environmental programs it funds for a further 10 years.

Visit  to take the survey before Wednesday 13 December
