Water meter reading

Contract readers commenced reading water meters in the Shire this week. The 3 monthly water usage accounts will be issued and due for payment by the end of January 2018.

Dog owners are asked to ensure that contract officers can access the water meter at your property without interference from your dog. Overgrown or buried water meters can also cause problems and may result in incorrect readings being registered. Please make sure your water meter is accessible at all times.

Kempsey Shire Library trading food for fines

Food for Fines display in library

Kempsey Shire libraries have launched a campaign to get books returned and to help those in need. The Food for Fines campaign means library members existing overdue book fines will be waived in exchange for canned or long-life food.

Members are asked to donate one non-perishable food item per book fine to any of the shire's library branches in Kempsey, South West Rocks, Stuarts Point and Hat Head from now through to Saturday 16 December.

All of items collected will be donated to local charities to distribute in Christmas food hampers to those in need in the local community.

Have your say on funding environmental projects

Hands holding plant

Over the last 15 years, the Environmental Levy applied to Council rates has funded significant environmental restoration projects that have managed, protected and preserved the waterways and natural environment of the Kempsey Shire.

The current Environmental Levy will run out at the end of the 2017-2018 financial year and Council is seeking community feedback on whether to extend the Environmental Levy and the environmental programs it funds for a further 10 years.

Visit  to take the survey before Wednesday 13 December

Toy Library sale

Toy sale logo

The community will be able to purchase some bargain toys from Kempsey Shire Library's former Toy Library, with a sale to be held this Friday 8 December, 10am-4pm.

The sale comes after the closure of the Kempsey Toy Library in October due to a decline in the number of toy library items being borrowed.

Stock for sale on the day will include an assortment of games, blocks and playsets. Cash only accepted.

All proceeds from the sale will be put back into children's resources and programs. Items that don't sell will be given to local children's services identified as having a need.

Please contact the Library on 6566 3210 for more information.
