Taylor and Canada’s The Small Glories to Frederickton.

Australia Day in the Macleay

2018 Australia Day Awards Ceremony

The Australia Day Awards provide an opportunity for Council to celebrate the contributions of community members who give their time, talent and efforts to enrich the lives of others.

Awards will be presented for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

The event will also include a Welcome to Country, Affirmation and Citizenship Ceremony, address from the Australia Day ambassador, finger food and live music by Lucy Barber. All community members are welcome to attend.

Crescent Head Australia Day Breakfast

When: Friday 26 January 2018, 7:30am
Where: Crescent Head Rotunda

Presented by Crescent Head Lions Club, the event will include a free breakfast and Lions Club award presentations for Citizen of the Year, Young Achiever of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year.

South West Rocks Australia Day Sausage Sizzle

When: Friday 26 January 2018, 7:30am - 10am
Where: Horseshoe Bay Shelter Shed, South West Rocks

Presented by South West Rocks Lions Club, the event will include a free sausage sizzle breakfast, performances by Sing Australia and presentation of the Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award.

Weekly works schedule

This week our crews will be working on:

New Decking on Loftus Bridge
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Major maintenance of Loftus Bridge over Belmore River
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Remove and replace kerb & gutter on New Street, Robert Eggins Street, Taylor Street and Chifley Place, South Kempsey
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on Armidale Road (Willawarrin to Pee Dee)
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Install concrete lined drain and widen formation on Sherwood Road (Sherwood Bridge towards Gowings Hill Road); Linemaking planned 22 & 23 January on Stuarts Point Road; and 23 January on River Street and North Street
  • Gravel road resheeting: Place, compact and trim gravel on Collombatti Road (end of bitumen to Chain o Ponds Road)
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Cooks Lane, Thurgood Lane, Kawana Lane, Goulds Lane, Dangars Lane and Hickeys Creek Road
  • Roadside slashing: Macleay Valley Way (Kempsey to Frederickton), Smithtown area, Gladstone area, South West Rocks Road, Gowings Hill Road, Pipers Creek Road, Dondingalong Road
  • Other works:
    • Earthworks, import and place basecourse, install subsoil drains and V-drain (western end) as part of extension from West Street to Gowings Hill Road
    • Form and pour footpaths, replace pavement for carpark area on Nicholson Street as part of South Kempsey Upgrade
    • Continue stair construction at Little Rudder Street
