Important road closure information

Kempsey Shire Council advises residents and road users that rolling road closures will be in place between 11am and 1pm for this event. Significant delays can be expected in West Kempsey, the CBD and on crossing the Kempsey Bridge. Please plan your travel.

Tomorrow night in Frederickton!

You can still purchase tickets for the much anticipated Festival of Small Halls music event taking place tomorrow evening at Frederickton School of Arts Hall. Visit Council’s Customer Service Centre or Frederickton Newsagency before the event or buy your tickets at the door tomorrow night.

Presented by Woodfordia Inc and supported by Kempsey Shire Council, the Festival of Small Halls is bringing Tasmania’s Claire Anne Taylor and Canada’s The Small Glories to Frederickton for a night of music, food and relaxed atmosphere.

South Kempsey Park amenities block

South Kempsey Park amenities closure

The public amenities building adjacent to the Visitor Information Centre at South Kempsey Park is currently undergoing full internal and external refurbishment. The amenities will be fenced off and closed to the public while the works are undertaken. It is expected to reopen in late April 2018. Alternative public toilets are available at the front of the Museum/Visitor Information Centre building.

February 2018 roadside spraying

Spraying of guardrail and bridge approaches will be undertaken by Council during the month of February (weather permitting) in the following areas:

Austral Eden, Belmore River, Collombatti Road, Crescent Head Road, Dungay Creek Road, Euroka Road, Gowings Hill Road, Grassy Head Road, Hat Head Road, Kinchela Creek, Loftus Road, Maria River Road, Phillip Drive (SWR), Arakoon Road (SWR), Lighthouse Road (SWR), Plummers Lane, Sherwood Road, Smithtown Road, South West Rocks Road, Spooners Avenue, Stuarts Point Road, Summer Island Road, Armidale Road, Hickeys Creek Road, Mooneba Road, Mungay Creek Road, Nulla Nulla Creek Road, Temagog Road, Toorooka Road, Turners Flat Road.

Chemicals used are Glyphosate (Roundup) with additives (Sulfometuron Methyl and Metsulfuron Methyl). For further information contact Council’s Works Office on 6566 3200

Weekly works schedule

This week our crews will be working on:

South Street extension works continue this week
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Routine bridge maintenance
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Remove and replace kerb and gutter on New Street, Robert Eggins Street and Taylor Street
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on South West Rocks Road (Kinchela to Jerseyville) and Horseshoe Bay access and carpark
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Install concrete lined drain and widen formation on Sherwood Road (Sherwood Bridge towards Gowings Hill Road) as part of rehabilitation works
  • Gravel road resheeting: Place, compact and trim gravel on Collombatti Road (end of bitumen to Chain o Ponds Road)
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Hickeys Creek Road, Kemps Access, Tamban Road, Seashore Lane and Sandy Creek Road
  • Roadside slashing: Macleay Valley Way (Kempsey to Frederickton, Smithtown area, Gladstone area, South West Rocks Road, Kinchela area, Belmore River area, Crottys Lane, Spooners Avenue and Collombatti Road
  • Other works:
    • South Street extension (West Street to Gowings Hill Road) earthworks and prepare for seal
    • Replace pavement in carpark area on Nicholson Street as part of South Kempsey streetscape upgrade
    • Remove existing and prepare east side Nicholson to Carri streets for new kerb and gutter as part of South Kempsey streetscape upgrade works
