Council notices
Week commencing 12 February 2018

South Street extension opening

The community are invited to attend the official opening of the South Street to Gowings Hill Road extension taking place next Monday 19 February at 10am in South Kempsey.

The 1km stretch of new road means that a high traffic volume, including up to 70 truck movements a day, can be diverted away from the residential streets of Middleton and West making the South Kempsey area quieter and safer.

The new stretch of road will be opened by Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey and Mayor Liz Campbell who will be joined by Council staff and representatives from the contractor engaged for the project, Eire Constructions.

Sewer main repairs taking place on York Lane, Kempsey

Map of York Lane closure

Urgent sewer main works commenced on York Lane in Kempsey on Monday 12 February. The works are anticipated to take one week to complete and require the partial and full road closure of York Lane between 5pm and 5am when works are taking place. Normal traffic flow will be reinstated outside the hours of operation.

This will occur all week through to Friday and, if required, works will also take place this Saturday 17 February from 12 noon to midnight. No work will be carried out on Sunday 18 February.

Council appreciates the impact the work may have on surrounding businesses and residents, and every effort will be made to minimise such impacts.

Temporary Turners Flat Bridge closure

Turners Flat Bridge

From 8am on Tuesday 13 February to 4pm Thursday 15 February Turners Flat Bridge will be closed to all traffic while Council undertakes geotechnical investigations in preparation for the bridge being replaced in September 2018. During the closure, there will be alternative river crossings via Temagog and Sherwood bridges.

The investigations will involve drilling to assess ground conditions to allow for appropriate piling design. A surveyor will be onsite during the process to record precise locations.

When construction of the new concrete bridge starts in September, it will be built at a higher level so the area isn’t cut off for as long during a flood event. It will also be widened to allow for two lanes of traffic to safely pass through.
