May Gibbs exhibition at Kempsey Library

A century on from when her adorable gumnut babies first found their way into the hearts of Australians, children’s book author and illustrator May Gibbs will be celebrated at Kempsey Library this month.

Her iconic works, featuring Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, Ragged Blossom and Little Obelia, will be on exhibition at the library from Saturday 16 June to Thursday 28 June. Entry is free.

Free child car seat check day

The correct use and fitting of child safety seats in vehicles is vital to ensuring the security of young children in the event of a car accident.

Council, in partnership with Roads and Maritime Services, will be holding a free child safety seat checking day to assist families with the correct use and fitting of child restraints in their cars.

The event will be held at the Macleay Pensioners Hall on the corner of Clyde and Stuart streets, Kempsey on Friday 29 June from 10am to 1pm.

Bookings are essential. Please contact Council’s Community Safety Officer on 6566 3282 to book.

Driveways will be poured on Tozer Street, West Kempsey this week
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Install kerbs and remove rock fill from creek bed on Schmidts Road as part of Schmidts Bridge replacement works; form and pour new concrete abutment as part of Jerseyville Wharf replacement
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance and replacement: Restore and tidy up of Michael Place, South West Rocks as part of stormwater pipe defect rectification; realign kerbs and pedestrian refuge on Gregory Street/Arthur Street, South West Rocks; excavate and form kerb ramps on Memorial Avenue/Landsborough Street, South West Rocks as part of new kerb ramp installation
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on Armidale Road (west of Bellbrook), Old Pacific Highway (off Upper Smiths Creek Road), Kempsey Streets, Stuarts Point Boat Ramp access and Macleay Street, East Kempsey (seal patches); heavy patching on Washington Street, East Kempsey
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Backfill new kerb and pour driveways on Tozer Street east (Elbow Street to Kemp Street); extend pipe culverts and widen shoulder on the north side of Plummers Lane (Macleay Valley Way to 1.2km) as part of rehabilitation works; linemarking on Sherwood Road (Ronella Drive to Hillview Drive) as part of rehabilitation works
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Nagles Falls Road, Yessabah Road, Bannermans Access Road, Armidale Road and Mooneba Road (rectify rain affected areas)
  • Roadside slashing: South West Rocks Road, Belmore River area and West Kempsey area
  • Other works:
    • Form and pour half layback to Caltex on Lachlan Street, South Kempsey (Nicholson Street to Yarravel Street);
    • Remove and replace failed concrete pavement on Macleay Valley Way, Bellimbopinni;
    • Linemarking on Loftus Road, Crescent Head Road and Macleay Valley Way (adjacent to the Slim Dusty Centre)

Any person may make a written submission to the consent authority in relation to a development application during the exhibition period. If a submission is made by way of objection, the grounds of objection must be specified in the submission. Please note that any submission received by Council may be made publicly available.
