Australian Poetry Slam & free poetry masterclass

The search is on for brave new voices to speak their minds at the Kempsey heat of Australian Poetry Slam 2018.

Contestants will have two minutes to own the stage and win over the audience with their original spoken word poetry. Judges from the audience will rate each performance and two successful wordsmiths will go on to battle it out in the state final.

Those wanting to sharpen their words before the heat are encouraged to attend a free masterclass run by the 2017 Australian Poetry Slam Adult Champion, Jesse Oliver. Masterclass attendees do not have to enter the competition but we’d love if you could stick around and check out the slam.

Both events will take place at Kempsey Shire Library on Thursday 9 August, with the masterclass from 1pm-3pm and slam heat sign ups opening at 4:30pm before the event officially kicks off at 5pm.

Contact Kempsey Shire Library on 6566 3210 for more information about the poetry slam heat or to register for the masterclass
