Mayoral Community Fund

Mayoral Community Fund banner

Are you a group, organisation or individual providing services to residents of the Kempsey Shire? You may be eligible to apply for a Mayoral Community Fund grant.

The initiative of Kempsey Shire Council is aimed at supporting community projects that produce a positive outcome for the Macleay Valley. Last year’s funding round was shared among community groups such as the South West Rocks Swimming Club, the Kempsey Railway Centenary, Kempsey Riverside Markets and the Crescent Head Malibu Club.

What’s on at Kempsey Library

Australian Poetry Slam - Kempsey Heat
Thursday 9 August, 4:30pm

Contestants will have two minutes to own the stage and win over the audience with their original spoken word poetry at the Kempsey heat of Australian Poetry Slam.

Judges from the audience will rate each performance and two successful wordsmiths will go on to battle it out in the state final.

Heat sign ups open at 4:30pm and the event officially kicks off at 5pm.

AWGIE nominated radio dramatist, award-winning playwright, short film writer and author D.M. Cameron will be coming to Kempsey Library to discuss her debut novel Beneath the Mother Tree.

A spine-chilling mystery crossed with a contemporary love story, the novel plays out in a wild Australian setting and interweaves Indigenous history and Irish mythology.

McIntyres Bridge is now complete
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Install kerbs, approach slab and bollards at Jerseyville Wharf
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Continue Belmore/Kinchela floodgate rust prevention works; gate maintenance on Summer Island Road
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance and replacement: Construct low retaining block wall on Memorial Avenue/Landsborough Street, South West Rocks as part of PAMP works; construct compliant road crossing on Gregory Street/Meehan Close, South West Rocks as part of PAMP works; form and pour new kerb and gutter at Carri Street, South Kempsey
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on South West Rocks Road and Saleyards Road
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Install median islands and irrigation on Tozer Street (Elbow Street to Kemp Street); prepare Plummers Lane (Macleay Valley Way to Menarcobrinni Road) for seal; excavate shoulders and widen pavement on Plummers Lane (from Menarcobrinni Road eastward)
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Turners Flat Road, Old Coast Road, Schmidts Road, Toose Road and Saleyards Road
  • Roadside slashing: South Kempsey area
  • Other works:
    • Backfill pavement on Lachlan Street, South Kempsey works (Yarravel Street to Middleton Street - west side)
    • Pour kerb and gutter and place pavement at Lachlan Street, South Kempsey as part of Middleton Street roundabout construction
    • Modify linemarking on Macleay Valley Way, Bellimbopinni as part of concrete pavement repairs
