2019 Australia Day Awards

Do you know someone making a positive difference in our community? Why not nominate them for an Australia Day Award.
Awards will be presented in the categories Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Community Group of the Year.
Nominations will close 4:30pm, Friday 30 November 2018.
The 2019 Awards will be presented at the Slim Dusty Centre on Australia Day Eve, Friday 25 January 2019.

Small Business Month events
Small Business Month is a dedicated event series that delivers practical business information and support to start or grow your business successfully. Funded by the NSW Government through the Department of Industry, Kempsey Shire Council are hosting two event to celebrate Small Business Month.
How to find the right staff for your business

A recent survey showed that a whopping 50 percent of small business owners have a hard time finding the right skilled workers to fill their open positions. Come along and hear from local businesses about the strategies they are undertaking.
Grant & Tendering Workshop

Are you thinking of applying for funding? This workshop will contain general information on writing funding applications, as well as information about funding streams that are available to support events and community organisations.

Red Cedar Festival workshops
Workshops will be held on Thursday afternoons in Term 4 from 4:30pm-6pm at Oddfellows Hall, 22 Kemp Street, West Kempsey for young people wanting to gain event management skills. Students will then put their new skills to the test at the 2018 Red Cedar Festival taking place on Saturday 17 November at Kempsey Skate Park.
The free workshops will give students training and hands on experience in jobs involved in festivals and live entertainment events. Areas covered will be event coordination hands on sounds and lighting experience, stage management and performance training.

Lattas Bridge closure
Council reminds residents and motorists that Lattas Bridge on Carrai Road will be closed on Monday October 22 between the hours of 8:30am and 4pm to allow completion of urgent repair works. A bridge girder and the decking will be replaced as part of this work.

- Bridge construction/maintenance: Routine bridge maintenance
- Flood mitigation maintenance: Clearing of Euroka Creek Drain; continue maintenance and refurbishment of Clancy’s Drain
- Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Seal shoulders as part of new kerb and gutter on Bloomfield Street, South Kempsey; seal shoulders as part of kerb and gutter replacement on Macquarie Street, South Kempsey; remove and replace failed footpath on Rudder Street/Bissett Street, East Kempsey
- Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching of Gladstone/Smithtown Streets, Belmore River Left Bank Road, Collombatti Road, Chain o Ponds Road and Spooners Avenue
- Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Tree planting on Tozer Street (Elbow Street to Kemp Street); restore verges on Plummers Lane (Macleay Valley Way to 1.2km); remove guardrail and excavate soft subgrade on Plummers Lane (Summer Island Road) as part of rehabilitation

A development application and accompanying documents may be inspected at Kempsey Shire Council, 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey, any time between 8:30am and 4:30pm from Monday to Friday (except public holidays) during the exhibition period.
Any person may make a written submission to the consent authority in relation to a development application during the exhibition period. If a submission is made by way of objection, the grounds of objection must be specified in the submission. Please note that any submission received by Council may be made publicly available.
