2019 Australia Day Awards

Do you know someone making a positive difference in our community? Why not nominate them for an Australia Day Award.

Awards will be presented in the categories Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Community Group of the Year.

Nominations will close 4:30pm, Friday 30 November 2018.

The 2019 Awards will be presented at the Slim Dusty Centre on Australia Day Eve, Friday 25 January 2019.

Red Cedar Festival date, time and address

Red Cedar Festival workshops

Workshops will be held on Thursday afternoons in Term 4 from 4:30pm-6pm at Oddfellows Hall, 22 Kemp Street, West Kempsey for young people wanting to gain event management skills. Students will then put their new skills to the test at the 2018 Red Cedar Festival taking place on Saturday 17 November at Kempsey Skate Park.

The free workshops will give students training and hands-on experience in jobs involved in festivals and live entertainment events. Areas covered will be event coordination, hands-on sound and lighting experience, stage management and performance training.

Weekly works schedule

This week our crews will be working on:

Middleton Street roundabout works are nearing completion
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Site clean-up of Latta’s Bridge, Carrai Road works; complete mobilisation and site set up of Connection Creek works
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Continue maintenance of Clancy’s Drain and Ferry Lane; spraying of Clancy’s Drain, Slaughterhouse Drain and Andersons Drain
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Continue replacement of failed kerb and gutter on Kemp Street, West Kempsey
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Continue Armidale Road, Plummers Lane and Greenhill area works
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Continue shoulder widening on Plummers Lane; install precast traffic islands at Middleton Street roundabout on Lachlan Street, South Kempsey
  • Gravel resheeting: Complete placement of gravel, grade and shape pavement formation on Willi Willi Road
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Complete Brassils Creek Road and Verges Creek Road grading; commence Inches Road and Red Hill Lane grading
  • Roadside slashing: Complete slashing in Crescent Head area
  • Open Space Operations: Middleton Street, South Kempsey roundabout works to complete; continue Gladstone Memorial Park footpath construction and prepare playground for opening; commence and complete Memorial Avenue, South West Rocks works
