Community Catch-up - Gladstone and Smithtown

Kempsey Shire Council is seeking to more actively engage with the community through a program of Community Catch-ups. Part of Council’s Communications Strategy, the Catch-ups involve Councillors and senior Council staff out in the community inspecting sites of interest, answering questions and building relationships.

The next Community Catch-up will be held at Smithtown Hall on Wednesday 26 September and focus on the Gladstone/Smithtown area.

Residents from Gladstone and Smithtown are invited to submit their questions and discussion points ahead of the meeting at yoursay.macleay.nsw.gov.au/community-catch-ups

Contact Council Customer Services on 6566 3210 for more information.

Water conservation

Despite the recent rainfall, Kempsey Shire Council will be continuing to monitor river levels in the event Level One water restrictions need to be implemented across the Shire.

Council is encouraging residents to employ the following water saving strategies in their home this spring:

Water running through tap connector
  • Take shorter showers
  • Fix leaks in the kitchen and bathroom
  • Use a bucket to catch shower water and use on the garden
  • Install water efficient tapware or retrofit old tapware with aerators or flow control valves
  • Place dropped ice cubes into a pot plant instead of the sink
  • Get into a routine of checking your pool at regular intervals for leaks and cracks
  • Make sure your hot water system thermostat is not set too high as cold water to cool very hot water
  • Check for leaks in your toilet cistern by putting a few drops of food dye in there. If you have a leak, coloured water will appear in the bowl before the toilet has been flushed

Seniors Festival 2019 - Expression of Interest

Kempsey Shire Council will be co-ordinating a calendar of events for the Seniors Festival 2019. The extent of the program will depend on grant funding and partner contributions.

The calendar will include a travelling information expo to be hosted in Kempsey, Stuarts Point and South West Rocks.

Feedback from our 2018 event stressed the importance of having fun and sharing information about services available across the Shire.

With this is mind, Council is calling for Expressions of Interest for sponsors, partners and presenters to exhibit at the 2019 Seniors Expo and to sponsor the wide array of events on the calendar.

Please contact Mary Williams at Council on 6566 3210 or mary.williams@kempsey.nsw.gov.au for more information.
