NAIDOC Week 2019
NAIDOC Week is held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This year’s theme, Voice, Treaty, Truth: Let’s work together for a shared future, focuses on the voice of Indigenous Australians and encourages people from all backgrounds to come together and work towards a shared future.
Today’s events include a weaving and craft workshop at Wigay Aboriginal Cultural Park in Sea Street at 1:00pm, hosted by Kempsey Shire Library and Red Cross.
Tomorrow a family fun day hosted by Burrun Dalai Aboriginal Corporation will be held at Services Club Park on Belgrave Street from 10:00am.
Mid North Coast Local Health District will host a NAIDOC Week morning tea at Kempsey District Hospital at 11:00am this Thursday. This will be followed by a Booroongen Djugun Elders luncheon at Booroongen Aged Care Facility at 12:30pm.

2019 North Coast Tourism Symposium
Macleay Valley’s tourism and hospitality business community is encouraged to join industry leaders and experts for the 2019 North Coast Tourism Symposium at South West Rocks Country Club on Thursday, 1 August.
Hosted by Kempsey Shire Council and Destination North Coast, the event will focus on business sustainability and the importance of evolving to meet future consumer needs.
Guest speakers from Destination North Coast, Tourism Australia, Earthcheck, GreenX7, and The Intrepid Traveller will cover a range of topics including sustainable, cultural and nature-based tourism, adventure and experience-rich travel, cruises, food and wine trails, education and much more.
The symposium runs from 8:30am to 4:30pm and is followed by the North Coast Regional Tourism Awards gala dinner from 6pm which will celebrate the quality and diversity of regional tourism.

Weekly works schedule

Crews are rehabilitating Gowings Hill Road in Dondingalong as part of Council’s sealed road network renewal program. Work includes shoulder widening, tree removal and edging, and laying of pipeline.
In other sealed road construction work, kerb and guttering will begin in Laurels Avenue in East Kempsey this week.
The itemised list of other planned works for this week in bridge construction, flood mitigation, drainage, kerb and footpath maintenance, road resealing, gravel road grading, roadside slashing, open space works and other projects is available on Council’s website from Mondays.
