Aims to develop and implement services in the community which are delivered appropriately to meet the needs of families who are in need of support in parenting and who may be experiencing violence, abuse and other forms of social disadvantage. The is achieved via the following services. Family Workers - Family Workers are available to visit parents at home or at the Service's house. Privacy and confidentiality are assured. Women's Support and Educational Group - Educational and support group for women to learn and grow in a friendly and safe environment. Our structured but flexible sessions allow each member to participate freely and topics include communication skills, self awareness, self esteem, assertiveness and self nurture. Transport and child care are available. Parenting Groups - for parents wanting assistance to learn skills in parenting. Groupwork is available at different times of the year. Supported Playgroups - Two playgroups, Playful Possums ( Early Intervention Centre, Nicholson Street, South Kempsey. Monday 10am to 12 noon) and Jolly Joeys ( Anglican Youth Centre, West Kempsey, Tuesday 10am to 12 noon). Both Playgroups are held for parents with children up to the age of 5. The aim of these Playgroups is to provide support for to parents within a playful environment. Also, regular guest speakers are arranged to provide information to the parents on various parenting issues eg. tantrums, dietary needs of children. A Playgroup Facilitator, Aboriginal Childcare Worker and Family Worker for Fathers staff both playgroups. Transport can be provided to parents needing it. Family Worker for Fathers - the Family Worker for Fathers works closely with Dads who attend the supported playgroups on Mondays and Tuesdays. Home visits can also be arranged. The aim of this service is to assist Dads to develop their relationship with their children through play, to provide information on parenting issues and to provide practical, personal and emotional support. Macleay Volunteer Home Visiting Service Volunteers offer both friendship and practical support such as transport, help with children, going on picnics and shopping. Some families are visited once a fortnight, some once a week and others more often. Sometimes, visits consist of playing and talking with children; on other visits, it may be important to help parents cook a meal, or go with the family on an outing. Any family with children under 5 years who may be experiencing difficulty or stress may use the service. eg. young mothers who may be feeling exhausted, feeling isolated, single parents, mothers with new babies. Volunteer visitors help by giving low key support and friendship on a short or long term basis. Volunteers are supported with training, supervision, regular phone calls, meetings with other volunteers, newsletters and functions.
