Collombatti is located on the old pastoral lease of Tanban which was owned by Anne Chapman. Timber was the main industry and giant girders were cut for shipment to other parts of the country. The flood free land induced farmers to produce maize and later dairy there. Collombatti developed during construction of the North Coast Railway when gangs of workers lived beside the railway line.
