Armidale Road closed west of Blackbird Flat
4 November 2020

Armidale Road is curremtly closed in the Armidale Regional Council area to all traffic until further notice due to heavy rain and landslips. Open to residents only with caution. Armidale Regional Council is moving more machinery to the site next week to continue work on corners. Road restrictions remain with a weight limit of 4.3 Tonne. The road is closed to RVs, caravans and trailers.

Bridges affected by the bushfires

A number of bridges in the Kempsey Shire have been damaged or destroyed by bushfires. Overall, five bridges were damaged and six destroyed in the upriver area.

Council has completed repairs at several locations already, including:

  • Taits Bridge, Willi Willi Road
  • Lemon Tree Gully Bridge, Warbro Brook Road
  • Brassils Bridge, Brassils Creek Road
  • Mines Bridge, Mines Road
  • Installation of a temporary bridge at Butlers Bridge on Warbro Brook Road

Further repair work is planned over the coming weeks to replace girders and decking, weather permitting:

  • Kyles Bridge, Toms Gully Road (commencing 9 March 2020)
  • Winstead Bridge, Winstead Road, Kundabung (not a bridge impacted by fire)

A temporary sidetrack has been constructed and is in place at:

  • Harrys Gully Bridge, Carrai Road
  • Lewis Creek Bridge, Toms Gully Road

Temporary load limits are in place at:

  • Majors Creek Causeway, Moparrabah Road
  • Havachat Bridge, Mungay Creek Road
  • Butlers Bridge, Warbro Brook Road

Council is seeking approval for the replacement of several bridges under natural disaster provisions and once approved this work will occur later in 2020:

  • Harrys Gully Bridge, Carrai Road
  • Lewis Creek Bridge, Toms Gully Road
  • Majors Creek Causeway, Moparrabah Road
  • Butlers Bridge, Warbro Brook Road (temporary bridge to be installed in March)
  • Maineys Bridge, Dowling Falls Road
  • Havachat Bridge, Mungay Creek Road

Roads affected by slips
18 February 2020

  • Moparrabah Road - a slip has occurred due to heavy rainfall - light vehicle access only.
