Go to Electoral Commission NSW website for more election informationLocal Government Elections will be held this year on Saturday, 13 September 2008. Kempsey Shire Council, as with all Councils in New South Wales will be holding its election on this day.

Kempsey Shire Council will again be electing nine (9) Councillors to represent the Shire for the next four (4) years from September 2008. Kempsey Shire Council does not have wards, but the Councillors elected represent all of the Shire. The Mayor for Kempsey Shire is not elected by the people at the election but by the elected Councillors at the first Council meeting after the election.

For the 2008 Local Government Elections are:-

Close of Rolls: Monday, 4 August 2008
Close of Nominations: Wednesday, 13 August 2008
Pre-Poll Voting: From Monday, 1 September 2008, to Friday, 12 September 2008 (closing 6.00 pm) at the Office of the Returning Officer.
Postal Votes: Applications for postal vote are to be submitted to the Returning Officer by 5.00 pm, Monday, 8 September 2008. Applications available from the Returning Officer.
Registration of How-to Vote Material closes: Friday, 5 September 2008, at 5.00 pm
Election day: Saturday, 13 September 2008

Election Funding Authority Declarations

Council is required to provide public access to funding declarations lodged by Councillor candidates with the Election Funding Authority. Declarations can be viewed on the Election Funding Authority website by clicking on the link below and entering the name you wish to view in the search.

The 2008 Local Government Elections are organised and conducted by the New South Wales Electoral Commission with the election costs paid by Councils. The Electoral Commission also appoints an independent Returning Officer.
