Councillor Bowell re-elected Mayor

Kempsey Shire Council held their Mayoral elections by open voting at today’s Ordinary meeting.

Two nominations for Mayor were received being Councillor John Bowell and Councillor Janet Hayes.

Councillor Bowell was elected to the position of Mayor for the ensuing twelve months. The margin was 6 votes to 3 in favour of Councillor Bowell.

Only one nomination was received for the position of Deputy Mayor that being Councillor Liz Campbell, who was duly declared elected.

Councillor Bowell thanked fellow Councillors for the opportunity to continue as Mayor.

Council Meeting times remain as 9.00 am on the second Tuesday of each month.

NB: The election of Mayor by the electorate, which was subject of a Referendum at the 2008 elections will not commence until 2012 at the next Council elections. Until then Councillors will continue to elect the Mayor each September for the ensuing 12 month period.
