Poetry Slam is on again – will we see you there?
Media release - 9 August 2011
The ever popular Poetry Slam, for all ages, is on again!
This year the South West Rocks Surf Club will be the venue for the heat of the Australian Poetry Slam on Friday 26 August, starting at 6.30pm.
In Poetry Slam heats, each contestant is given a microphone, a live audience and just two minutes to impress the judges (selected at random from the audience) with their original spoken word, poetry, hip hop, monologues and stories.
The host for the evening will be Miles Merrill, who is one of the founders of the poetry slam movement and is a highly entertaining and creative spoken-word artist in his own right.
There are some great prizes to be won!
The whole evening is certain to entertain, whether you want to be a ‘poet’ for the night or a ‘judge’ or simply be part of the crowd. Budding performers need to get there at 6pm to register, as only the first 20 people can perform. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. As the Surf Club is a licensed venue, young people must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The Poetry Slam is organised by South West Rocks Arts Council in partnership with Kempsey Library West. Enquiries can be made to Nikki, by phoning 6566 6862 evenings, or to Gabi Brie at Kempsey Library on 6566 3210.
