Macleay River flood update no. 1

Media release - 24 January 2012

Council wishes to inform residents and visitors that the Bellbrook Bridge is under water at Bellbrook and we expect all low level bridges will be submerged by tonight.

The Macleay River level at Georges Creek peaked at 3.22m and is now falling fairly rapidly indicating minimal impact flooding in the Lower Macleay at this time.

Council staff have begun preliminary preparations for a flood event   and will lower the Macleay Floodgates late this afternoon in conjunction with the next low tide. The remainder of the manual gates will be closed with tomorrow’s low tide.

Dungay Creek causeway is also submerged and is being checked.

There is some water over Gladstone Street, Kempsey at the railway underpass but still trafficable.
