National Recycling Week competition

Media release - 9 November 2017

To coincide with National Recycling Week (November 13-19), Kempsey Shire Council, in partnership with MIDWASTE, is encouraging locals to drop off goods or pick up a bargain at their local tip shop for the chance to win a $50 voucher.

Reuse Centres (or tip shops) sell quality, recycled, second-hand products that have been salvaged or donated rather than ending up in landfill. These products, including homewares, can be picked up for bargain prices. You can also drop off unwanted reusable items at your local tip shop for free.

Kempsey Shire Council’s Waste Strategy and Education Officer, Gavin Hughes, said the week is important for highlighting the benefits of reusing and recycling.

“Reuse centres across the region prevent valuable resources from ending up in landfill and help to protect the environment,” he said.

To be in with a chance to win a $50 tip shop voucher simply make a purchase or drop off unwanted items at Council’s Waste Management Centre located at 638 Crescent Head Road, South Kempsey anytime during Recycling Week.

Now in its 21st year, Recycling Week is coordinated by Planet Ark to bring a national focus to the environmental benefits of recycling.

Another free recycling service Council offers is the MobileMuster which allows residents to drop off unwanted mobiles and all their accessories.

Residents can drop these items off at Council’s Customer Service Centre and Kempsey Shire Library, free of charge.
