Community Catch-ups

Community life - 20 February 2018

Kempsey Shire Council will continue its Community Catch-ups program with the first meeting of 2018 to be held in Frederickton on Wednesday 28 February.

Council resolved in April 2017 that quarterly Community Catch-ups were to be held in towns and villages across the shire. The meetings are less formal than a council meeting and involve Councillors and senior Council staff out in the community inspecting sites of interest, answering questions and building relationships with residents.

The first catch-up was held in October 2017 at the Stuarts Point Community Hall with about 40 residents participating in discussions and site inspections at Stuarts Point, Grassy Head and Fishermans Reach.

Council’s engagement website Your Say Macleay, allows residents to stay informed and have a say on Council projects, is updated with information about each Community Catch-up.

The website allows residents to fill out a form with questions or topics they would like to see discussed at a catch-up. There is also an interactive map where residents can pin point what areas they believe require a site visit.

Council’s General Manager, Craig Milburn, said he is looking forward to attending his first Community Catch-up this month and getting to know some of the Macleay Valley’s residents.

“These meetings are a great way for residents to let us know what they would like to see happen in particular areas and how they can work with Council,” Mr Milburn said.

“I encourage residents to provide their feedback via the Your Say Macleay website ahead of meetings as it allows Councillors and staff to arrive at a meeting with details of a specific matter to ensure that discussions are relevant and effective.”

Residents are encouraged to attend the Frederickton Community Catch-up on Wednesday 28 February from 5pm-7pm at the School of Arts Hall located at 20 Macleay Street.
