Youth Week celebrations in the Macleay

Media release - 9 April 2018

A colour fun run, skateboard painting workshops and a free music night are just some of the exciting events being held as part of this year’s local Youth Week celebrations.

Kempsey Shire Council is hosting and supporting a variety of events for Youth Week (Friday 13 April to Sunday 22 April), targeted at young people aged 12-25 and embracing the theme ‘Unity through Diversity’.

A feature event is the second annual Dash with a Splash - a colour fun run where participants can walk, jog or run a 1.5km or 3km course.

It will be held on Thursday 12 April at 10am at the Pam Guyer Netball Courts on Belgrave Street, West Kempsey. Registrations are $10. For more information go to

Council has partnered with local youth to host the Beach Beats Fest at the South West Rocks Surf Club featuring DJ Audiotek, Caleb Webber, DJ Faraway and hip-hop artist Dawn Laird. It will be held on Friday 20 April from 6pm to 10pm. Free entry.

Two Skateboard Painting workshops with Indo the Artist will be held on 16 April at the Kempsey Skate Park between 10am to 1:30pm and on 17 April at the Crescent Head Rotunda from 10am to 1:30pm. Registrations are $10 and can be made by calling council’s customer service centre.

Council’s Community Projects Officer, Olivia Parker, said Youth Week is a time to recognise the valuable contribution young people make to our community.

“Youth Week is about celebrating and showing support for our Shire’s young people while giving them the opportunity to be involved in a variety of events and activities,” Ms Parker said.
