Media release - 28 September 2018

Small business owners wanting to know more about finding the right staff or writing effective grant applications should register for two business workshops being hosted by Kempsey Shire Council.

Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Officer, Kristy Forche-Baird, said Council is proud to be supporting NSW Small Business Month, which runs from 1-31 October.

“The initiative is all about celebrating the critical role small businesses play in our economy and helping them become more productive and grow,” she said.

“We have around 2,000 small-medium size businesses in the Macleay across a variety of sectors.

“These events will not only be informative but will provide opportunities for local business owners to network with like-minded people.”

The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP, says small business are the engine room of the local economy and managers should consider attending the workshops.

“As a former small business owner, I know how important it is to stay on top of recruitment processes and potentially useful funding streams; they’re a key part of being successful.”

The ‘How to find the right staff for my small business’ workshop will see businesses discuss strategies they are undertaking to attract the right skilled workers to fill their open positions.

It will be held at the Kempsey-Macleay RSL Club on Tuesday 30 October from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Cost $20 per person. RSVP by 23 October.

The ‘Grant and Tendering Workshop for events’ workshop will contain general information on writing funding applications, as well as information about funding streams that are available to support events and community groups.

It will be held at the Slim Dusty Centre on Wednesday 31 October from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Cost $20 per person. RSVP by 24 October.

Both workshops will be facilitated by business expert John Goddard, with the format following presentation sessions and a Q&A panel discussion.
