Low rainfall forces Kempsey Shire to next level of water restrictions

With minimal rainfall forecast in coming weeks, Kempsey Shire Council has taken immediate action to safeguard water supplies by introducing Level 2 water restrictions.

These restrictions apply across the Shire and include the Kempsey Lower Macleay area and water supply schemes in South West Rocks, Hat Head, Crescent Head, Stuarts Point, Bellbrook and Willawarrin.

Council launches new Kempsey Community Directory

Community groups and not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to list and promote their services and activities through Kempsey Shire Council’s new online service, Kempsey Community Directory.

Following the success of Council’s Hey Hey Macleay! community events calendar, the free community directory will provide a one-stop platform for residents to find information about services available across the Macleay Valley.

New Council Code of Meeting Practice adopted

Kempsey Shire Council adopted a new Code of Meeting Practice that will apply from its next meeting on 25 June 2019.

The new code was developed in consultation with Councillors and senior Council staff and was placed on public exhibition for 28 days. It incorporates mandatory provisions from the Model Code of Meeting Practice for Local Councils in NSW, as directed by the Office of Local Government, as well as local variations for how Kempsey Shire conducts its meetings.

Macleay businesses urged to complete North Coast Skills Audit - 2019

Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast (RDAMNC) and Regional Development Australia Northern Rivers (RDANR) are currently reaching out to Macleay Valley businesses to assist in identifying skill shortages across the region.

Results of a North Coast Skills Audit will help identify training and skills shortages and assist in the development of locally based policies and programs.

Have a say on Biodiversity Strategy for the Macleay

With more than 2,500 plant and animal species and 16 threatened ecological communities, the Macleay Valley is home to a unique and rich biodiversity.

To ensure this natural environment is properly managed and conserved for our future generations, Kempsey Shire Council is developing a draft Biodiversity Strategy.

A discussion paper has been released to give the community an opportunity to comment on planning for biodiversity conservation and management within the Kempsey Shire.

Lifesaving devices delivered to Macleay aquatic centres

People with portable defibrillator

Three of Kempsey Shire’s aquatic centres have taken delivery of a lifesaving device that will benefit pool patrons by improving emergency first aid responses.

Jointly funded by Council and the Office of Sport under its Local Sport Defibrillator Program, the defibrillator devices will be located at the Crescent Aquatic Centre, Macleay Memorial Pool Gladstone and South West Rocks Swimming Pool.

$3.4 million project to revitalise Stuarts Point foreshore

Kempsey Shire Council will soon begin revitalising Stuarts Point foreshore by improving infrastructure to maximise recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

At the May meeting, Councillors adopted a development plan for the foreshore reserve which will pave the way for detailed designs and construction plans to be prepared for the funded works.
