Important information for property owners with Onsite Sewage Management Systems (OSMS)

 
 
 
 

Go to Onsite Sewage Management Systems Program in pdfIn 2010-11 Council is introducing a new system to better oversee the management of the Shire’s onsite sewage (septic) systems. The new system means that every property in the Shire which has an onsite sewage management system (OSMS) will pay an annual fee of $50 (once current approval has expired). This fee will be listed as a separate invoice item on the property’s annual rates notice. Previously, a fee of $100 was charged when an inspection was actually carried out at a property.

The main reasons behind the change are the need to develop a program that ensures optimal health and environmental outcomes for all residents within the Shire; and to share the cost of running the Onsite Sewage Management Program evenly and fairly across all owners of such systems within the Shire.

Under the Local Government Act 1993 property owners with OSMS must obtain Council approval for the operation of their OSMS and must comply with the conditions of approval.
