Kempsey Shire Council's recycling service commenced in October 2006. The aim of this service is to minimise the amount of waste going to landfill and to minimise the impact of waste on the environment. JR Richards and Sons has been engaged to collect the recyclables on behalf of Kempsey Shire Council.

What can be recycled?

The following items can be placed in the 'yellow lidded' bin for recycling:

• Glass bottles and jars (without lids please)
• Plastic bottles and containers with the codes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 (no lids)
• Steel and aluminium cans, empty aerosol cans and empty, dry paint tins.
• Newspapers, office paper, cardboard, magazines, phonebooks and junk mail.

What can't be recycled?

The following items are NOT acceptable for recycling:

• Ceramics, light bulbs or Pyrex (place in your general waste bin).
• Green waste or food scaps.
• Plastic bags or general waste.
• Any glass other than bottles or jars.
• Any plastics other than those with the code listed above.
• Scrap metal, wire, electrical leads or appliances.

Handy Hints about your Recycling Service

Don't bag your recycling
Reuse your plastic bags or place them in your general waste bin. Please don't put them in your recycling bin as this impacts the sorting process.

Don't contaminate your recycling
Contaminated bins may not be collected until it is sorted properly.

Don't overfill your bin
Over-full bins may not be collected as overflowing material will fall out upon collection.

Check your recycling collection calendar
Please check your recycling calendar to ensure your recycling bin is serviced. Calendars were issued with your new bin or this brochure can be downloaded in pdf format by clicking here.
