FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION - NEW WASTE SERVICES |
||
Q1: Why are we getting new bins? Given the requirements of various state and federal legislation that impacts and Kempsey Shire Council (KSC) is bound by, changes to the pickup and delivery of waste was required. To achieve the changes the waste services were tendered out to contract so as to provide the best possible service to the whole area. In addition to meet and achieve the legislation new bins were required to assist with parts of the Act and the old bins do not meet the newer standards required. Q2: Why am I getting a green waste when I live in a rural area? Not every one is getting a green waste. Only the primary urban areas as defined by the rates section of council. Urban is the prime villages, Kempsey proper, Stuarts Point proper, South West Rocks and Crescent Head to name a few. Q3: What do I do if I need a larger bin? You will need to make a request in writing to council for the different size service. The reason for the request in writing is to create a formal paper trail for service changes. The new larger bin service will attract an extra fee. As yet and explained in the media information, this fee has not yet been formalised or approved by KSC. Q4: When do I need to start paying for the new services? No new service fees will come into play until July 1st 2009 and subject to KSC approval. Q5: What if I live in strata units, do I get a green bin and do I get a red lidded bin? The strata type units will get a red lidded bin each and only one (1) green bin delivered to the site. Each group, may through the body corporate, write to Council to change the make -up of the bins, eg 240 litre garbage and or extra green waste bins if required. Q6: I live in a flat or rented property, I need a larger bin for my garbage, what do I need to do? You will need to get the landlord/owner or managing agent to write to council on your behalf to request a larger bin as there is a cost for extra or larger bin services, the request cannot be from the renter or lessee. Q7: Do I have to have a new green bin if I don’t want one? Under the Local Government Act, Council is to provide the best possible and practical waste removal service to the residents and rate payers of the local government area. In addition the various state and federal legislation requires all councils to reduce waste going to landfills. As green waste is one of the major emitters of methane, KSC is being proactive by adhering to the legislation in minimising what amounts of material are going to the landfill. Again KSC has only defined the prime urban areas to be covered by the service. The actual use of the service is up to the resident or rate payer but council is obliged to provide the service. Q8: When the bins are delivered how will I know which is my bin or bins? When the bin/s is delivered they will have a bar-coded address on the side with the name of the owner on the side. This is the bin assigned to that address. For convenience these bin number/s should be recorded and kept for future reference. Should you note that other properties have received bins and you have not, please contact council in the first instance on 6566 3200 and give them your exact address and details. Remember that only the landlord/owner or managing agent can request or provide this information if you are renting or leasing the property. Q9: When will the new bins be delivered? The new bins will be rolled out over the last 2 weeks of March. The bins have been under assembly over the last week and will be delivered when final electronic addressing is completed. Q10: When will the old green garbage bins be collected? These bins are and remain the property of KSC, they will be collected and are to be recycled. Collection schedule:
