Fortnightly Garden Waste Service

Green Lidded BinThe garden or green waste service is available and will be provided to the residents and premises in areas bounded as urban as per Council’s rates section. The dark green wheelie bin (240 litre) with the Green Lid is to be used for collection of garden waste. To check your collection day, please view the Garbage Day Calculator.

Owners of flats and units may choose through the body corporate to minimise the number of bins or services required.

Garden Waste is not accepted in the red-lidded waste garbage bin. The garden waste service is not available to commercial or industrial properties. Please note that the weight limit for your garden waste bin is 60 kgs and is assessed by hydraulic scales on the truck lifting arms. Heavier bins cannot be lifted due to safety reasons.

Recycling and garden waste collection occur on the same day as garbage collection, and on alternate fortnights. To check your collection day, please view the Garbage Day Calculator at www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au/kscaspnet/waste-schedule.aspx

For all enquiries regarding your garbage collection service, contact J R Richards and Sons on free call 1300-787-223.

Garden Waste Do's and Don'ts

  • Don't completely fill your bin with heavy lawn clippings
  • Remember the weight limit is 60 kg for green waste bins
  • Shake off any dirt before placing garden material in bin
  • Leave the lid open a little between collections to allow material to dry out
  • Use the compostable bin liners provided by Council for your HandyBin
  • No plastic bags or bin liners
  • No soil/rocks
  • No logs/stumps
  • No kitty litter/manure/animal droppings

If in doubt, leave it out. If it is not pictured here, do not put it in your green waste bin.

Where does your garden waste go?

Garden material in the green waste bin is recycled at an organic recycling facility. It is mulched, then composted to produce a soil conditioner product.
