The Waste LevyThe release of the NSW State Government’s mini budget in November 2008 by the Treasurer saw the introduction of the Section 88 Waste and Environment Levy (the waste levy) for 21 Councils, comprising 19 coastal Councils located between the Hunter & the Tweed, as well as the Blue Mountains & Wollondilly Councils. This new region is to be known as the Regional Regulated Area (RRA). Kempsey Shire Council along with the adjoining Councils are included in the RRA. The Sydney Metropolitan area and the Extended Regulated Area comprising Hunter & Illawarra Councils have incurred the levy since 1996. The Government’s stated objectives in introducing the levy to the RRA are to:
