Medical Scholarship 2010

Medical Scholarships are available to 2009 HSC studentsFor the past five years Medical scholarships have been offered to two local students who were embarking on tertiary education in health studies.

Kempsey Shire Council, in partnership with the Kempsey, Kempsey West and South West Rocks Rotary Clubs, the General Practice Network, the Macleay Regional Co-operative Ltd (IGA Supermarket) will be offering another two scholarships to students who completed their HSC in 2009 and are commencing study in 2010 in the field of medical science including:

Medicine, Dentistry, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Optometry, Pharmacy, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Audiology, Podiatry, Dietetics and Nursing.

To be eligible this study must be undertaken at an Australian University and deferments will not be accepted.

JumpSTART NSW Cadetships

The NSW Government has announced an exciting new program designed to help young people take up careers in the public sector. 500 entry-level cadetships are being offered to HSC school leavers every year for the next 4 years. The program is called JumpSTART NSW.

The NSW public sector is the largest employer in the state, with workplaces all over the state, and an amazing range of jobs and careers.

So if you're looking for a new path, love a challenge, and want a career that offers great variety, applying for a cadetship is a great way to give your career a JumpSTART.

Who can apply for a cadetship?

You are eligible to apply for a cadetship if you:

• Have your HSC, expect to complete it in 2009 or have a minimum Certificate IV qualification

• Will be under 25 when applications close on midnight Wednesday, November 4 2009

• Are a permanent resident of Australia.

Traineeships with NSW Commission for Children and Young People

The NSW Commission for Children and Young People are offering a great opportunity to work as a trainee in a paid, one year contract, in the IT, Policy and Communications and Community Development Teams.

You must have an interest in improving children and young people’s lives, an interest in either IT, Policy or Communications as well as an enthusiasm to learn.

Ben Chifley Scholarship 

Go to the NSW DET website for more on the Ben Chifley ScholarshipThirty Scholarships are available for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year apprentices from country NSW. The Scholarships will be awarded by the Premier of NSW at the beginning of each year, commencing in 2009. Each Scholarship is valued at $5,000 for each year while the apprentice is completing their apprenticeship up to a maximum of $15,000. At least two of the Scholarships will be awarded to people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background each year.

Who is Eligible

Apprentices who live and work in country NSW and are Australian citizens are eligible to be nominated. See the Guidelines (pdf 124 KB) for full eligibility criteria.

How to Nominate

Apprentices have to be nominated by their employer and trade teacher or registered training organisation. For more details go to the NSW Department of Education and Training website at http://apprenticeship.det.nsw.edu.au/html/ben_chifley_scholarship.htm.

Nominations Close

For apprentices who will be in their 2nd or 3rd year in 2009 nominations close on 31 March 2009. For learners who will be in the first year of their apprenticeship in 2009 nominations close on 31 May 2009.

Winners will be announced by the Premier of NSW and State Training Services will notify successful nominees in writing.

Local Sporting Champions: Funding for junior athletes to pursue their sporting dreams

The Local Sporting Champions program is an Australian Government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for junior sportsmen and women towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed state or national sporting competition.
