Youth Events
Midnight Basketball commences at the PCYC at South Kempsey tonight and will run for eight weeks on a Friday night. Time is 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm start. Dinner is provided and each team will play 2 games per night. Cost is FREE and there will be pick ups from West Kempsey and South Kempsey. For more information call Paula on 6562 8399. Entry into the competition is FREE and there will be three (3) main categories:-
E-Waste - Any electronic waste recycled into an art object. Can be 3D or suitable for hanging;
Paper Product - Artworks made from a collection of different types of paper (may include magazine clippings, bits of coloured paper,
photographs, cardboard boxes, etc.) Can be 3D or suitable for hanging; and
Mixed Media - Artworks in which more than one medium has been used,
eg paint, paper, metal, plastic, to make a statement relative
to waste into art. Can be 3D or suitable for hanging.
Each category has three age sections - Infants, Primary and Secondary. Prizes of $500 will be given to the school of the winners in each section, and $100 presented for those artworks given a High Commendation in each section. Prize money of $1,000 is awarded to the school of the Overall Winning entry.
The entries will be judged on their creativity, aesthetic merit, innovation, craftsmanship and quality of work. An important pre-requisite, however, is that at least 90% of the artwork is made from waste materials. The closing date for entries is Thursday, 1 October 2009. The works of art, however, need only be completed by 23 October, ready for pre-selection judging (27-29 October) which occurs at each school.
If you are having a party anywhere in New South Wales, you can notify NSW Police Force. Sign up your party online by following the steps on the website http://www.mynite.com.au/register.php (must be at least 72 hours prior to event). Also there are some great party tips and advice on how to have your event run smoothly.

Remember to inform police if your party is postponed, relocated or cancelled.
