Youth Forum at Crescent Head - November 2008
A Youth Forum was held at Crescent Head in November, organised by a community interest group who named themselves Crescent Head All Together (CHAT). Principle contact was Mr Roger Ferguson. The aim of the forum was to promote dialog between the generations to help to begin the process of profiling the community and perhaps developing an understanding of some of the causes of the anti social behaviour which is disrupting the idyllic environment of Crescent Head community.
62 community members attended; the majority of which were adult. Approximately 45 people were adults. 16 people were youth and ranged from 9 years to 15 years old. There were 2 x 23 year olds. Over all, this was a very encouraging number of people for such a small community and bodes well for the prospect of some constructive action in the future. The committee are to be commended for rallying so much support. Unfortunately the demographic 15 to 23 were not represented at all. This was a shortcoming of this first forum, but not necessarily a major issue at this stage. Many of the young people that night stated that if a subsequent forum were to be held that they were sure more youth would attend now that they knew what was involved. Overall it was a very positive response that the committee can take heart in. Hopefully this community will continue to take such initiatives and other such gatherings will promote progress toward meeting the needs of adults and youth to a greater degree in the future in this community.
