Baseballers receive Certificates of Merit
On Tuesday, 11 August 2009, during Council's Ordinary Meeting three rising baseball stars were presented with Certificates of Merit from Mayor John Bowell. The certificates recognise those who have been selected to compete at a national or international level or have been successful in competition at either national or international level. The following young people were acknowledged:-
- In 2009 Claire played in the NSW Country Open Women's baseball team and in the under 14's Country NSW team, both at National Championships.
- In 2009 Braden competed at the All Schools National Championships held in Canberra in May as a member of the NSW Combined High Schools representative team. He has been selected as a reserve in the Australian Schoolboys representative team to tour the United States of America in September, and has also been selected in the Country NSW under 18's representative squad to compete at the Australian National Championships in January 2010.
- In 2009 Jack was selected to play in the Country Baseball under 16's squad and also represented the North Coast Academy of Sport playing softball at the NIB games in Newcastle and represented Northern Country at the under 16's State Championships.
Good News for Virginia!!
Congratulations to Virginia Bone - the newest YAC member - for winning a scholarship from the Department of Housing. Virginia is a young single mum (caring for two pre-schoolers) who attends Macleay Valley Vocational College and is already a much valued member of the 2009 YAC team with her thoroughness in things administrative and phenomenal fundraising ability. This scholarship will assist Virginia in furthering her studies by easing her financial load just a little. Well done Virginia. She is pictured right with Jann Eason, Principal of Macleay Valley Vocational College, after the official "Congratulations".
Congratulations to Year 12 Koori Students
On Saturday night, 15 November, Year 12 Koori students from
Melville High and Kempsey High celebrated their
success with a dinner at Brindabella.
The celebration was to mark their many
achievements and successes throughout their
education.
It was great to see the families and both
schools working together to make Kempsey a
better place for the future of our Koori students.

Congratulations Sam - Dux of Year 12 Melville High
Congratulations to Sam Wetzler, the 2008 DUX at Melville High School. Sam received his prize for DUX at the Year 12
Formal held on Thursday night, 13 November, at the Kempsey Macleay RSL Club. The school commended Sam on his fine effort and academic achievements in his
time at Melville High School.
Kempsey Adventist School Presentation Nights
Kempsey Adventist School Presentation Nights for 2008 were held over two evenings at the Kempsey Adventist Church. The Primary School acknowledged a year of great success on Tuesday, 9 December, while the Secondary School celebrated the successful graduation and achievements of its inaugural School Certificate class on Wednesday, 9 December.

St Pauls College Presentation Night
St Pauls College presentation night was held on Wednesday, 17 December, at the Kempsey Macleay RSL Club. The DUX for of the College for 2008 is the Year 12 student with the hightest UAI in 2007 which was Megan Holdt with a UAI score of 99.2 (picture right). The 2008 DUX for Year 10 was Ellen Scobie while the other year DUX's were Year 7 - Jack Shaw,
Year 8 - Tessa Love and Bryce Clarke (equal),
Year 9 - Jack Collins, and
Year 11 - Kate Nicholson. Congratulations to all!
Waste into Art 2008 Winners
Congratulations to all the winners of the second annual ‘Waste Into Art’ competition which were announced at the official opening of the exhibition on Friday evening, 24 October 2008, at the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery, Kinchela Street Gladstone. The Judges were overwhelmed by the standard and inventiveness of the entries received, so much so they awarded the Overall Winner as a joint prize to "The Robotic Lizard" by the Year 10 Design and Technology Class from Macleay Vocational College and to "Don't Hide Your Face From Rubbish" by Class 6O at Kempsey West Public School. The exhibition featured over 170 artworks created from recycled materials by fifteen local schools and the artworks were entered into three categories - E-Waste, Paper Product and Mixed Media. > Click here to go to Waste into Art 2008 Photo Gallery.

Macleay Valley was the big winner this year in rugby league’s Harry Wells Shield
Macleay Vocational College (MVC) combined with Miriwinni Gardens Aboriginal Academy and the Kempsey Seventh Day Adventist School took out the under 16's Harry Wells Shield at Stuart Park, Port Macquarie, while St Pauls College took out the under 14's.

MVC School Principal, Jann Eason said, 'MVC played four games and defeated all comers, they are the smallest school in the competition, but play with the biggest heart.'
This is the third time the Macleay Vocational College has entered the Harry Wells Shield Rugby League competition - being runner up to Kempsey High School in the first year (2005), combining with Miriwinni Gardens Aboriginal Academy to win in (2007) and combining with Miriwinni Gardens Aboriginal Academy and the Kempsey Seventh Day Adventist school to win in 2008.
School Principal, Jann Eason said 'this is an achievement to rival the chooks! It is marvellous to have combined with Miriwinni Gardens Aboriginal Academy and Kempsey Seventh Day Adventist School this year in the both the Even Start Literacy pilot for year 9 and the Rugby League Harry Wells Shield. We're on a winner! Surely this is FRONT PAGE news!
Macleay Vocational College Sebright Bantam Success
The following chooks, grown and groomed at the Macleay Vocational College, were winners at the Brisbane Show held on 9 August 2008.
- Silver Sebright Rooster (Chucky) one entry - 3rd
- Silver Sebright Cockerel (two entries) - 2nd
- Silver Sebright Hen (one entry) - 1st and Show Champion
- Silver Sebright Pullet (two entries) - 1st and 2nd in class
- Gold Sebright Cockerel (one entry) - 1st
- Gold Sebright Hen (one entry) - 1st
- Gold Sebright Pullet (two entries) - nil award
This success adds to their 2007 Silver Sebright Bantam Champion and 2008 Gold Sebright Bantam Champion at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and the recent Macksville Poultry show wins in the following classes:
- 2008 Gold Sebright Bantam Champion
- 2008 Silver Sebright Bantam Champion
- 2008 Rare Breed Champion
This was the first time the Macleay Vocational College won all classes in the one show.
