Kempsey Shire Council is developing a new Cemeteries Strategy to guide the future management of the shire’s cemeteries.
Council currently manages 11 cemeteries across the Macleay Valley, some of which are in high demand and some which are closed to burials. The new Cemeteries Strategy is designed to guide Council in managing, maintaining and improving cemeteries and cemetery services.
The Cemeteries Strategy will be an important step in helping ensure cemetery services meet future demand. Council takes its role in managing cemeteries very seriously. Therefore, it is important that we develop a strategy that emphasises preserving the past as well as planning for the future.
The strategy will include an analysis of the current and future capacity of each cemetery site so we can plan for the long term.
Council is engaging with funeral directors and others to develop the Cemeteries Strategy, which will be placed on public exhibition in February 2022. Members of the public can register to receive project updates by visiting Your Say Macleay.
